A DAY WITHOUT HISPANICS TO HIT HOUSTON!!!!

HISPANICS TAKE OFF MONDAY!!!!!

Expect thousands of Hispanic workers in Houston to take the day off Monday. They're protesting the proposed legislation that would make illegal immigrants felons. They're hoping to send a message to the US government and local businesses showing them just how important they are to day to day operations in the states. Macario Ramirez (above) is a long time activist. And he's closing his folk art gallery in The Heights on Mondayin support of the immigrant movement. Ramirez says it's important that all Americans realize the contribution Hispanics make in this country. How do you feel about the Monday protest?????

I'm not for the protests at all. Am I against immigrants, no. I think having people come into our country from all over is wonderful and thus, make our country even richer. I am however against those who take advantage of our rules by entering this country illegaly.

There are so many people who go about the right way to enter the country and even to become citizens, why should those who break the law by entering in this country illegaly reap the same benefits earned by law abiding citizens? Some people say that they're honest people, and that may be, but if they are truly honest, then there's the right way to go about living and working here. I think if many of those from south of the border were to do that, many people here would respect them more and all of these protests wouldn't even be an issue because they'd be here by going about entering our country lawfully.

Also as a black American, I truly dislike that proponents of these protests are saying it's similar to the Civil Rights protests of the 60's. That is so off base. The difference is many of us didn't go about breaking laws to enter this country, we were already here being treated unfairly as American citizens, being denied rights we earned and were entitled to. No one is denying those immigrants anything, because they are marching for a right they have not earned like so many of us here. If they want their "justful" rights, then abide by our laws and enter our country the same way so many other immigrants from all over the world do.
