TIM MILLER OF EQUUSEARCH: THERE'D BE INTEREST IF "IT WAS A CUTE LITTLE BLOND GIRL"

TIM MILLER JUST WENT OFF ON THE MEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you watched FOX 26 last night you may have heard Tim Miller go off on the news media. He's upset the national media hasn't focused any attention on little Kendrick Jackson who disappeared from Houston last week. Miller, founder of Texas Equusearch, says the media would be more interested if "it was a cute little blond girl" who was missing. He's referring to all the attention given to Natalee Holloway who disappeared one year ago in Aruba. Miller says there could be someone in Mississippi or Louisiana who may have seen something in the Jackson case and will never know the little boy is missing because the national media has not picked up on the story on the African American. Miller, who searches for thousands of missing people, has worked on both the Holloway and the Jackson cases. But do you think he's right about the equality of news coverage when it comes to the mass media? I'd like to hear you comments.

Tim is wrong in this case. The Holloway case has different dynamics then Kendrick. The boys father has been arrested and it's clear he did it. It's just a matter of time before he fesses up. The Holloway case has no clear suspects and that's why the attention is needed. Hope you get my point. And stop bringing racism into everything. Everyone is not a racist.

MJ is completely wrong. This is not the first nor will it be the last time a little black kid's disappearance has been overlooked. A child who has gone missing is horribel regardless of what color they are. Although it seems obvious that Kendrick's father is behind this, he has not been officially charged with murder or kidnapping. How many pretty little white girls' abductions have gone nation? Case in point: Elizabeth Smart. Another example: JonBenet Ramsey. No, not everyone is racist, but I'd say most people are, even if they're afraid to admit it.

I have to admit race never entered my mind when it came to little Kendrick's case, but that does not mean I don't believe Tim Miller is totally off base here. I don't think anything was done puposefully or maliciously with the reporting on Kendrick's case nationwide, but it does bring up certain "wonders" about our country and society.

Whether anyone admits it or not, America's subconcious still values white lives more than black lives just like the lives of the rich are valued more than the poor. Is it wrong, of course it is, but it's the reality of our country. In 2006 the color of ones skin and even the color of one's hair and eyes can change the dynamics of a story ( I personally still wonder how the coverage of the OJ Simpson case would have been any different if the victims were black. Of course it would have been big because he was a celebrity, but I wonder if it would have been different if Nicole was not an attractive blonde haired white woman).

Again, I don't think race screaming issue in this case, I do not believe Mr. Miller is completely wrong.

Interesting enough, we discussed this topic in class this morning! Most of the students (including whites) believed that if Little Kendrick was a white boy/girl, then there would be more coverage from the nat'l level. I’d have to agree. The anonymous post above gave two excellent examples: Elizabeth Smart and Jon Benet Ramsey… let’s not forget Amber Hagerman.

Remember the case of LaToyia Figueroa? The national media didn't cover the story until several blogs started mentioning the story and putting pressure on the media.

So yes, sadly, I think Mr. Miller is right - there is a racial bias when it comes to media coverage of things like this.

This is a different situation than NH. For one the little boy was not vacationing in a tropical island that is frequented by lots of Americans- he was just living in Houston. It seems as if his family may have been involved with the dissappearance and I think that is what makes the story a local one. It's a pretty sad story either way. If she was a blonde girl and missing witrh her father the lead suspect I believe it would still be a local story. Tim Miller is just frustrated because he can't find the little boy, but he never found Natalie either.

i think that race is an issue with many missing children cases... but i dont believe this is one of them. this child was not abducted... it appears he was killed by his own father. that makes it local until the body is found and the father is charged. only then will it possibly gather national attention.

Today is July 28. I have not heard Kendrick's name mentioned. What's going on? Does anyone know?
I don't watch news 24/7 but I haven't heard anything in a very long time.
