THE INSITE: HE CERTAINLY LOOKED LIKE THE SHERIFF WITH HIS COWBOY HAT ON!It was last year when this rumor first surfaced and now I'm hearing from a credible source that former Houston Police Department chief Clarence Bradford is seriously considering a run for Sheriff. This source was bold enough to say "he is running." I have not been able to get Bradford to confirm this. I recently saw him at the Black Heritage Gala with a cowboy hat on and he surely looked like the sheriff then. However, he only stopped briefly to say hello and said he enjoyed reading The Insite. So the question I have is should Bradford run for Sheriff of Harris County? And only serious response are being solicited in case he is gaging his bid from your comments. That's pretty arrogant of The Insite to think someone would gage their political aspirations on this site...but let's do it anyway!

Clarence Bradford doesn't liked to be called Clarence. He prefers that people refer to him as C.E. Bradford.
I think Clarence is fine, but he prefers C.E. because it sounds more dignified than Clarence, which probably sounds like a silly name to some folks.
His initials are actually C.O. - and it's more of a police thing. I hink he should run for sheriff. I'm sure he will do more than Tommy Thomas.
If he runs I want to work on his campaign. What ever they need done I am ready. We need a shake up over yonder and we need to bring an end to the Good OLD BOY Trailor Network......

The reason he got his posterior handed to him as Police Chief is because he should have never been Police Chief. He never worked patrol. Never understood what the job of a police officer is. In short, he is clueless. He never knew what a police officer, much less a sergeant, lieutenant or captain, went through on a daily basis. He could not relate to the man and woman on the street and REFUSED to listen to reason and/or advice for the great unwashed masses.
In order to discourage new ideas and criticism, anyone who approached him with such was immediately put on a "committee" to solve it.
He screwed up the crime lab. he screwed up the K-mart thing. The department was and still is in a shambles because of his mismanagement.
He was promoted to Assitant Chief from the rank of Sergeant while he was working in dispatch because, GASP, he was black.
He is an overeducated, underexperinced, walking, talking example of the "Peter Principle."
Maybe he'll get that other "genius" in law enforcement, Mae Walker to be his right hand (wo)man.,

I kinda hope he does run so that he can have his arse handed to him, seeing as how he could not find it any other way. Name one, just ONE thing Bradford did as Police Chief that was not an abject failure. He and Brown both were idiots (and still are) and Brown was a corrupt idiot, one has to wonder if his right hand man was as well. The oppo-research that will come to bear on his candidacy will rip him and what is left of the Brown administration to shreds.

If I remember correctly Clarence was the name of the blind lion in the old "Daktari" series. Kinda fits if he thinks that the electorate will forget all the problems he left behind at HPD!!!

So what?!?! I would hope that you really don't believe "the white boy did it, so we can to" defense that you appear to support. I'd hope that you (and other voters -- no matter the demographics) are more concerned about a waste of taxpayer money. No matter your side of the aisle, I'm sure you'd agree that there are better ways to spend that money than to give a man a last-minute raise.
White-collar crime is crime. If one steals, they should be punished. No exceptions.
Though Brown and Bradford may have been incompetent, that does not mean they were corrupt. I was not a big fan of the last-minute raise for Bradford, but that was not a crime.
However, as a taxpayer, I perceive it as a waste of my money -- just like last year's pension increase for all state legislators (white, black, brown and purple) tied to judges salary increases.
Best of luck to all the candidates for Sheriff. I hope we as voters, with the help of journalists like The Insite, take the time to scour each candidate and pick the best person for the job -- no matter the party, gender, or race.

I am excited to hear that Bradford may run for Sheriff!! It can only get better for citizens of Harris County. We have those running way so call deputy out there treating everybody like criminal. It's time for a change. Mayor Brown did not benefit from the pension. It was not for elected officials. The white people over the pension told the Mayor the monies were there, and had the so called data to justify the reason for the change through the legislator at the state level. The police lab were in the same shape before Bradford arrived, it was all about funds to correct the problems, which included white folks, Mayors and City Council. Bradford could only use monies for what were approved by the city. It's not about White folks, Black folks, it's about mistakes of humans which always happens in society. I know all of us have made mistakes which we learn what not to do in the future, and we correct those mistake. The pension funds were corrected, the lab problem were corrected. So let's move on and I am sure we will have other problems to correct also in the future that man or woman is not aware of. I end with run the race for Sheriff Bradford!!! YOU HAVE MANY SUPPORTERS.

According to you, the crime lab problem was already there so its not his fault that it could not be fixed. Using your logic, why should you believe he can correct the problem you say the deputies have?
The media needs to give more airtime to the corruption at Harris County instead of only reporting every time HPD picks their nose in public.
Stop giving the county a pass on all their little scandals.

I whole-heartedly believe that there probably are scandals... I just don't know what they are. I would suggest they include the awarding of contracts for roads, infrastructure, etc.

To anonymous #19, you have no concept of funding allocation in government. They fund so much at a time each year for major projects. Many of the deputies in the county do not have interpersonal skills and know how to deal with our diverse community, and the culture of especially African American. Bradford has expertise in identifying those type of behavior,along with experience in business management of law enforcement, and a law degree. He knows the rights of our citizens as well. We are the ones that counts! The present Sheriff do not reach out to the citizens he represent to address any problems. We paid his salary.
Having worked for C.O. Bradford previously, I would associate him running for Sheriff, as to when the citizens of Washington D.C. re-elected Marion Berry Mayor, after his Crack-Smoking incident on video. Have we forgot about his little purjury trial, the Crime Lab horror story, and yes he KNEW of the crime lab problems, and he blamed everyone else. He is not a Leader, let's find someone with some real, old fashioned Integrity, someone with prior military expierence, how about former Assistant District Attorney Mark Vinson?

It is a shame that in 2007, we can't see a person for their qualifications but only see the color of someone's skin according to the previous blogs. The same way that white people feel about me I feel about them.
As far as Bradford is concerned, I think that he is a great candidate for Harris County Sheriff. He can't make anymore mistakes that Tommy Thomas, Bill White, Robert Eckels, and/or George Bush.
HPD isn't the only department with issues,if you don't believe me check with the Federal EEOC. All police departments have issues because they are constructed on the principles that blacks are not to be promoted only field hands. As long as black officers and citizens continue to sit back and allow the mistreatement of people, we as a nation will never move forward.
