THE QUESTION HAS TO BE ASKED: DO YOU THINK ELIZABETH SHELTON RECEIVED PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT AS A JUDGE'S DAUGHTER?

SOME SAY IT'S SPECIAL JUSTICE THEY JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND!

Everyone outside of the courthouse Tuesday was shocked at what they considered the light sentence received by the daughter of a judge convicted of manslaughter. Her sentence: 8 years of probation and 120 days in jail served on the weekends beginning in December when she's out of school. Some say Elizabeth Shelton got special justice in the deadly crash where invesitgators say she was driving while intoxicated. Here's the full story. Leave your comments below on whether you believe she received special treatment:

The jury that found Elizabeth Shelton, the judge's daughter, guilty Tuesday morning of driving drunk and causing a deadly wreck, gave her a sentence of eight years probation and 120 days in jail late in the afternoon.

The 120 days in jail is a condition of the sentence and it was uncertain when that would be served. If Shelton violates her probation, she automatically will be sent to five years in prison.

The 20-year-old Shelton, the daughter of District Judge Pat Shelton, was charged with intoxicated manslaughter after a fatal crash last Oct. 23 on the Southwest Freeway when she slammed her SUV into a freight cargo truck, killing her 19-year-old boyfriend, Matthew McNiece.

She could have been sentenced to as much as 20 years in prison.

Shelton's Lexus was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound in the 2300 block of the freeway when it crossed two lanes and hit the truck about 2 a.m., police said.

Police reported Shelton's blood-alcohol level was 0.28, more than three times the legal limit for driving in Texas, when she was arrested.

Shelton's lawyers told the court the accident was caused by the truck swerving into her lane. They had experts testify that her being intoxicated had nothing to do with the collision.

Of course she did! That's one of the perks of 1) being WHITE and 2) being a Judge's daughter.

Of course she did, but what did you expect? To all the idiots who posted above this, Race had nothing to do with it!! It's SOLEY because of her dear ol' daddy's influence-peddling. They are elitist scum who care nothing about the preventable loss of an innocent life. This just makes me sick!

My brother was involved in the same type of accident but he was high on marijuana. Not only did he get probation but it was deferred adjudication, meaning if he did not get in trouble during the probationary period he would not have a conviction on his record. I am black male and we were low middle class at the time.

Although race is a factor in courtrooms today it is more about your LAWYER. It is really hard to say she got of easy if we have no numbers on the average penalty for a similar crime. Finally if we would vote, we would have a say in the judges that sit on the bench and if we would show up for jury duty we would have a say in guilt or innocence and the penalty.

no preferential treatment there. it's the sentencing requirements. the bus driver (who is black) who was found guilty of manslaguhter got only a few days in jail and probation. the lea bargian was alot worse.

As an officer I'd like to know just how many defendants are allowed to start school before their jail sentences. I've arrested students in the middle of their terms for crimes I caught them doing. I don't give a damn if they are in school. When it's time to pay the fiddler that comes first.

hey craig:
oj got preferential treatment because he had a brilliant, yet a complete scumbag of a lawyer, and was a popular media star.
NOT because he was black
