WHAT PRISCILLA DID IN TEXAS STAYS IN TEXAS: WELCOME BACK TO MISSISSIPPI!

SLADE IS HEADED BACK HOME!

Ousted Texas Southern President and Mississippi native Priscilla Slade is returning to her alma mater, Jackson State University, where she will teach accounting this fall.

"The situation in Texas was resolved in Texas," said Glenda Glover, dean of JSU's College of Business. "It has nothing to do with the state of Mississippi."

Slade will be an asset to the university, Glover said.

"She has a doctorate in accounting ... from the University of Texas (at Austin) arguably one of the best programs in the country," Glover said.

Slade could not be reached Friday.

A Yazoo City native, Slade made national news after she was accused of misspending more than $500,000 in TSU money. Prosecutors said she bought more than $100,000 in furniture and home decorations, shelled out $60,000 for a high-tech home security system, spent nearly $40,000 on a 25-place dinner set and used school money to pick up bar tabs and pay for manicures, spa treatments and exercise classes, The Associated Press reported.

Her attorney said then that Slade had been made a scapegoat and was blamed for other employees' misspending.

After an October mistrial, Slade in March entered a plea deal, agreeing to pay TSU more than $127,000. She was given 10 years of deferred adjudication and ordered to perform 400 hours of community service.

Earlier this month, three students credited with helping expose the scandal won a lawsuit against the school and were awarded nearly $200,000. The students said they were arrested and kicked out of school in retaliation for criticizing Slade.

Glover said she doesn't foresee the newly hired professor having credibility troubles with faculty and students.

"Accounting is the law of debits and credits," Glover said. "She has made a lot of contributions to the (accounting) profession and opened doors to African-American students in the profession. We thought the students would learn a lot from all that she has to offer."

Slade also earned a degree at Mississippi State University.

JSU President Ronald Mason said the business school made him aware they planned to hire her and he didn't object.

Like Glover, Mason said Slade's legal issues were in Texas. "We're hiring her to do something that she's high qualified to do and very good at."

Asked if she would be making any fiscal decisions, Mason said Slade "won't be signing any checks" for the university.

"Given her qualifications as a professional and our needs, ... I thought this was a win-win situation," Mason said.

LONG STANDING HISTORY...BLACK PEOPLE TAKING UP FOR BLACKS.....

I am not black, but I disagree with you.

There is a long standing history of the rich and powerful standing up for the rich and powerful.

She has something that someone else wants, so that someone else is gonna give her what she wants...I think lawyers call it quid pro quo.

with valid justification, my deceased mother would say, "White folks been doin' it for years".

How IGNORANT of JSU! "Slade will be an asset"," don't see credibility issues", "a lot of contributions to the Profession(?)........come on.
So what that her "troubles" were in Texas. Are you going to hire a pedophile to baby sit your children? A mass murderer as your butcher? Or a thief to teach your kids accounting? When we spend as much as we do for kids college educations is this what we should expect? JSU should be cut off from ALL state/federal funding for this idiotic move!

I'm glad she got the job and is finally able to move on with her life. It's time to put this case to rest.

How crazy are the folks at JSU? Well this is just the lesson in character that we need to send to young people...You can steal, not balance you own personal checking accounts (remember she had overdrafts)? and then just waltz in and say "oh well ... I'n a thief and cost TSU thousands of dollars, but here I am ... you too, young people can do the same thing too." Just splash on some St. John's suits some long weave and all is well... Just look good, and you can be as corrupt as you wanna be..
Lord have mercy where are we headed as a people?... JSU should never suspend another student for theft or stealing grades again!

Character counts, last time I checked. Apparently not in Miss., but most everywhere else.

And LMAO @ "the rich and powerful sticking up for each other.." That's just flat-out innacurate.

Most of the people commenting on this blog have (1) never met Dr. Slade or (2) only know of her through media outlets—so give the ignorant comments a rest. The media is biased and something called "playa hating" actually exists. (And no, it is not exclusive to race or gender.) She was "hated on" by people who do not like women in power and she was "hated on" by people who do not like Black people in power. Trust me, she gave more to TSU then she got. So for all of the stupid commenters who said something without knowing anything—do your homework. For all of the racist commenters who said something racist—go back to Europe. And, for all the ignorant commenters who said something ignorant—get a clue.

Congratulations to Priscilla Slade. New beginnings and a new start. She will do well in Mississippi. JSU, good choice! The judicial trial is over and she has moved on. It's good to know you can always go home and she did.
