THE INSITE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: LAURA WHITLEY GIVING UP NEWS FOR THE KIDS!

THE INSITE: I THINK THIS IS SOME OF MY BEST WORK AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO SAY A WORD. I LET THOSE WHO KNEW HOW IT FELT SAY IT ALL IN THE REPORT I WROTE!

CRAP COMES OUT AGAINST GOVERNOR RICK PERRY!

MEMBERS OF HIS OWN PARTY ARE CALLING HIM A FRAUD?

Rick Perry is the biggest FRAUD and PHONY in American politics today. Rick Perry has done nothing but promote BIG government for 9 years. Rick Perry is pushed through a gargantuan toll road taxing and spending scheme, the biggest tax increase in Texas history, billions and billions of dollars, all for his special interest toll road friends.
Not only that Perry promoted a NEW BUSINESS MARGINS TAX, a small business killer passed 2 years ago. Yet he has the nerve to come to a Tea Party anti-tax rally. I am not supporting this idiot. I am for anybody BUT Rick Perry.
Then Rick Perry tried to force every 12 year girl in Texas to take a MANDATORY HPV VACCINE SHOT, a huge infringement on parental rights, with the parents forced to pay $400 for the shot.
Rick Perry says he is for states rights, but HE IS FOR THE UNITED NATIONS! He goes to a Tea Party, yet he has tea time with the globaSettingslist Bilderbergers when no one is looking - TWICE he has gone there, and they sure don't believe in the US Constitution.
Rick Perry is desperate; I think he is beginning to figure out that he can't win on pro-life alone, while being funded with toll road money.
I am for ANYONE but Rick Perry in 2010.

Sincerely,

Robert Morrow

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR HARLOW AND HOBBS!

SAYING FAREWELL TO THE MEN WHO RISK THEIR LIVES!

Two of Houston's firefighters were remembered this morning in a memorial attended by thousands of people. Captain James Harlow and Probationary Firefighter Damion Hobbs were killed while responding to a fire in southeast Houston. A public memorial was held at Grace Community Church for those who wanted to say goodbye. A private service will be held for the families of the two firemen on Friday!

THE INSITE TOLD YOU THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN: PERRY NOW SAYS TEXAS MAY WANT TO SECEDE FROM THE UNION!

NO APOLOGIES NECESSARY, JUST TELL ME IF YOU'RE STAYING IN THE LONE STAR STATE IF WE GO ROGUE!

I got some criticism on Tuesday for suggesting Governor Rick Perry was considering seceding from the Union. Some of the readers said I was hearing what I wanted to hear. Others suggested I was misleading readers. It only takes time for vindication because the Guv has officially said what I told you was coming. Here's the latest on Rick Perry's efforts to make Texas a stand alone country:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall -- one of three tea parties he was attending across the state -- that officials in Washington have abandoned the country's founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.

Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess." Many in the crowd held signs deriding President Barack Obama and the $786 billion federal economic stimulus package.

Later, answering news reporters' questions, Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.

I'VE SEEN IT ALL: WILL THE REAL PERRY MASON PLEASE STAND!

A STORY ONLY FOX 26 REPORTER NED HIBBER COULD FIND...GREAT JOB GUY!

On television, Perry Mason represented criminal defendants. In Harris County, Perry Mason IS a criminal defendant.

Mason, 43, is charged with barratry, which is the unlawful practice of law.

He is accused of soliciting potential clients for a licensed attorney, who is not named in the court document.

Inside Mason's north Houston home, FOX 26 News spotted a local lawyer's business card with the name "Perry" handwritten on it.

That lawyer denies any wrongdoing and says Mason once swiped a handful of his cards and was handing them out to prostitutes at the Harris County Jail in an attempt to "get a date."

The lawyer is not charged with a crime.

Mason's father doesn't believe his son did anything wrong. "I can't believe this," he said.

Vince Mason told FOX 26 News he named his son after Perry Mason, the attorney from the TV show starring Raymond Burr, because it was better than the name his wife wanted: Corinthians.

"He was a good lawyer," said Vince Mason, referring to the TV character. "He would always win most of his cases, dig in, find all the facts."

Perry Mason is out of jail on $5,000 bond and due to appear in court, Thursday morning.

SHOULD SENATOR RICHARD BURR FACE SANCTIONS AND EVEN CRIMINAL CHARGES!

REPUBLICAN SENATOR TELLS WIFE TO TAKE OUT AS MUCH CASH AS POSSIBLE USING INSIDER INFORMATION!

Republican Senator Richard Burr admitted Monday night to instructing his wife to withdraw the maximum amount she could from their bank accounts in successive nights the week the financial crisis began.   As a member of the Senate he acted on information that wasn't available to the general pubic.  He knew things we did not and he took action to protect his personal finances while citizens of North Carolina trusted he was acting in our best interest.

Burr was speaking to a group of constituents and his admission was made in the form of an anecdote told to presumably illustrate  how he panicked at the onset of the economic crisis.

BISHOP TURNS PRESIDENT FATHERS A BABY WITH A 16 YEAR OLD GIRL!

AND YOU THOUGHT AMERICAN POLITICIANS WERE BAD!

It's a priest-meets-girl drama that's now a President-admits–baby scandal. According to a paternity suit filed in Paraguay last week, Fernando Lugo was 48 years old when, a decade ago, he began an amorous relationship with a 16-year-old girl, Viviana Carrillo, in the impoverished San Pedro province. At the time Lugo was a Roman Catholic bishop — and Carrillo was preparing for the sacrament of confirmation. Lugo denies that the affair began when Carrillo was a minor. But she says she was "seduced by the way he talked, his pretty words, his beautiful expressions," according to the suit, "and by his promises that he would resign his position for me, that he would spend his life with me, that we would have many children together and form a household."
Lugo did eventually resign as bishop of San Pedro — but just months before leaving the priesthood, he conceived a child with Carrillo in 2006, when she was 24. (The boy, Guillermo, turns 2 next month.) A year ago Lugo was elected President of Paraguay. Now, in response to the lawsuit, Lugo has come clean about the affair. "Here and now, before people and my conscience, I declare with absolute honesty and a sense of duty and transparency," the President said on Monday, "that there was a relationship with Viviana Carrillo." He added, "I assume all responsibilities, and I recognize that I'm the father of the child." Says Claudio Kostinchok, one of the lawyers who filed the suit for Carrillo: "I think he showed that his clerical and political ambitions mattered more to him than this woman and child."

IS NORMAN COLEMAN WASTING THE PUBLIC'S TIME?

THE DNC SAYS ENOUGH ALREADY YOU LOST!

It's been 24 weeks since the Senate election in Minnesota between incumbent Republican Norm Coleman and comedian-turned-Democrat Al Franken.

And still the wrangling continues.

The latest news was Tuesday's development. A three-judge panel in the state ruled thatFranken "received the highest number of votes legally cast." At last count, the former "Saturday Night Live" performer  was ahead by 312 votes out of nearly 3 million coast.

But Coleman has vowed to take his case to the state Supreme Court, arguing that more than 4,400 absentee ballots have yet to be counted. And both Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a Republican, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, a Democrat, seem content to let him take one last appeal to the state Supreme Court before this movie comes to a conclusion.

But Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said it was time for Coleman to concede, accusing him of putting his own ambition ahead of voter interests.

INSITE PICTURE OF THE DAY: SHER-MIN WE LOVE YA, BUT WE WILL RUN YOU OVER!

THE SPEED SIGN SAYS 40 BUT WE WERE GONNA PUNCH IT AT 80!

The Insite and FOX 26 photographer Greg Ramirez were stuck in a tough position on Wednesday. We had an important interview we needed to get to but there was a problem.  A local news anchor who was also out reporting was blocking our car.  There we were with a decision to make.  Do we miss our interview or just run over KHOU TV anchor Sher-Min Chow.  It wasn't her fault.  She was just as busy chatting it up on the phone working her sources for the same story The Insite was on. We waited about a minute then I told Greg to punch it.  We then just rolled over Sher-Min.  Just kidding, after a minute or so she realized she was blocking us.  She mouthed sorry and moved out of the way.  Hey Sher-Min, thanks for dropping by the Insite!

HOUSTON TEA PARTY: JONES PLAZA PARTY STARTS AT 4PM IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON!

JONES PLAZE TEA PARTY IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON BEGINS AT 4PM. ARE YOU GOING TO A TEA PARTY TODAY?

ONLY ABOUT 300 PEOPLE SHOW UP FOR TAX PARTY IN WASHINGTON D.C.!

IS THE TEA PARTY IDEA A MAJOR BUST?

The symbolic tea dump has been cancelled in Washington, D.C. as a result of permit and other logistic issues. MSNBC reports while organizers expected thousands of people to show up in our nation's Capital there are only a few hundred. Adding to the problems - all of the rain in Washington. A lot of people are being forced off the streets because of the bad weather. If 300 is all organizers can come up with in D.C. some are concerned about the attendance in smaller communities. Is the symbolic Tea Party a bust? The Insite would like to hear your opinion!

THEY ROBBED MR. CAR WASH 2!

DO THESE FACES LOOK FAMILIAR TO YOU?

Investigators in the Houston Police Robbery Division are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying three suspects wanted for at least two robberies in the southwest Houston area.
The suspects are described as three black males, 16 to 20 years of age, with short hair, clean shaven and slender builds. The first suspect is about six feet three inches tall and light skinned. The second suspect is about five feet seven inches tall with dark skin and the last suspect is about five feet six inches tall with dark skin. Surveillance photos of the wanted suspects are attached to the news release.

On April 2, the three suspects, one armed with a handgun, entered the Mr. Car Wash at 10760 Westheimer. At some point, the suspects walked out of sight, put bandannas over their lower faces, walked to the back of the business and robbed an employee and two customers. The robbery was captured on surveillance video.

The suspects then left the car wash and went to the 99 Cent Store at 1449 Wilcrest and entered the business armed with handguns. One of the suspects then pointed his weapon at a child and threatened to shoot. The suspects then robbed the employees and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information on the identity of the wanted suspects is urged to contact the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THE DRUG DEALERS IN MEXICO HAD THIS?

HEAVY FIRE POWER SOUTH OF THE BORDER IN THE WRONG HANDS!

Authorities in Mexico have captured an anti-aircraft machine gun, the first such weapon seized from a drug cartel.

Federal police say the anti-aircraft gun was part of an arsenal linked to the powerful Beltran-Leyva cartel. The weapon can fire 800 .50-caliber rounds a minute, penetrating armor at a distance of nearly a mile.

Mexican authorities aren't saying where it was manufactured or sold but many guns involved in Mexico's drug violence have been traced to the U.S.

The Obama administration has been stepping up its efforts along the border to halt drugs coming into the U.S. and guns flowing into Mexico.

In a major drug bust yesterday, the Mexican army captured a suspected lieutenant for the Beltran-Leyva drug cartel.

PARKER WANTS TO TRACK THE FEDERAL STIMULUS DOLLARS!

WILL THIS HELP KEEP A WATCHFUL EYE ON LOCAL SPENDING OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS?

Houston City Controller Annise Parker today launched a new web site to allow the public to track the dollars flowing to Houston from the estimated $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. “Transparency and accountability are critical to keeping the public informed about how the funds are being allocated and spent locally,” said Controller Parker. “Taxpayers have a right to know that their money is being used to create jobs to keep our economy growing and to help keep people in their homes. This is especially important at a time when the area is already losing jobs due to the economic downturn. My office will continue to expand the Web page to provide ongoing information on this effort. When the dollars actually make it to Houston, we will share information on where they are spent. I believe we can improve our chances of winning more funds if we show our use of the monies already received is meeting the goals of creating jobs.”

Tracking the Houston Stimulus is found at: http://www.houstontx.gov/controller/Recovery/houstondollars.htm

The Web page currently displays anticipated formula allocations the Houston area expects to receive. Right now, that figure totals approximately $187 million. This includes more than $15 million for the Houston Police Department, Houston Office of Emergency Management, Houston Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security and the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. In addition, there is $36.5 million for energy efficiency improvements at city facilities and $13.5 million for the purchase of foreclosed and abandoned homes. In addition to the formula allocations the city will be pursuing numerous competitive allocations that could push the local stimulus impact much higher.

The Web site also includes links to information on grants, contracting opportunities for businesses and other potential funding opportunities made available by the ARRA. This information is compiled as part of State Comptroller Susan Comb’s effort to track the stimulus impact statewide. Her web site can be found at
http://www.window.state.tx.us/finances/stimulus

WE NEED TO KEEP OUR EYES ON THESE RIGHT WING REPUBLICANS AND VETERANS RETURNING FROM WAR!

TOM: WE WANT OUR COUNTRY BACK NOW!

The Insite is hearing from long time Insite reader Tom Bazan (Royko) and his wife about a recent controversial memo from the offfice of Homeland Security. It essentially says law enforcement agenices should keep their eyes on potential domestic terrorists like angry veterans returning from war. Veterans who may be upset about the economy and the first Black President. Our good friend Tom is weighing in on this issue. Here's his perspective on the matter:

Keep in mind the memo was sent to far Left extremist Police chiefs such as Harold Hurtt.

When my wife and I attended the event on 2/27/09, I was confronted by an undercover cop with the HPD Criminal Intelligence Division.

Might I suggest we are already being investigated, in preparation of some mass round-up of "subversives."

We will again be at a Tea Party rally today, held at "Jordy's Toilet." My wife has a sign with the "Declaration of Independence" printed on it. I will likely have the attached on about Cubans being promised CHANGE. We will also have the "Infiltrator" signs for the Left's "useful idiots" and trolls.

BTW- When in San Antonio, encourage everyone to order a tool from Gary. He could use the extra sales.

Tom

WOULD YOU STAY IN TEXAS IF GOVERNOR PERRY WANTS TO SECEDE FROM THE UNION!

IS RICK PACKING HIS TEXAS BAGS AND GOING SOMEWHERE?

In recent days we're starting to hear some tough talk from Texas Governor Rick Perry. Talk that gives the impression the Governor wants to leave the United States. He says he's tired of the federal government telling us how to run Texas. That came with his support of House Concurrent Resolution 50. That leads the Insite to a question. If Perry wanted to leave the union like back in the civil war days would you stay in Texas? Leave your comments below. Here is the article which lead to this post:

Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas." ...

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

HOT SHEETS OR NOT?

I THINK I WAS NEAR THE PIMPS AND SKANKS SUITE!

Since the city of Houston has been on the prowl for hot sheet motels, so has the Insite. I found this motel in southeast Houston. It looked cheesy and as if it had a pimps and skanks suite. The Insite wants to know if you think it's a hot sheet motel or not? That simply means the sheets will burn you if you get in them. Have you ever stayed at a hot sheet motel and didn't know it? I think I did when I went to Philadelphia this year. I'd just arrive in the city and was suppose to travel to Washington DC that night. I was so tired that I decided to pick the cheapest motel near the airport and just chill until the morning. When I got to the room it was kind of stank. At $80 a night it must have been a hot sheet motel. I slept fully clothed on the floor with temperatures hovering around 20 degrees. Those hot sheets weren't going to get me!

ONE PERSON KILLED IN BUILDING COLLAPSE IN HOUSTON!

THE VICTIM IS IDENTIFIED BY HIS SISTER!

An apartment building undergoing construction in southeast Houston has collapsed on several people, killing at least one.

The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 6300 block of the I-45, the Gulf Freeway, near Griggs Road.

Houston police and firefighters rescued at least two of the workers from underneath the debris. One was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and another was sent to Memorial Southeast Houston hospital.

The fire department says a third victim was found dead in the building and will be left there until investigators can be brought in to look over the rescue scene.

"At this point we have to document every move that we make, and that's why we've pulled out the firefighters," said HFD Assistant Chief Rick Flanagan.

A police dog is assisting in the search for more possible victims.

Those injured are possibly contract workers who were performing some type of construction at the apartment building, which was at one time a motel. Houston officials had deemed the property a public nuisance, and New Hope, a nonprofit organization, was renovating the building to provide affordable apartment housing for low-income adults.

The apartment complex is owned by New Hope Housing, and the prime subcontractor is Camden Builders.

"I can just tell we are very concerned about the situation," said Ric Campo, chairman and CEO of Camden Builders in an interview Tuesday with FOX 26 Sports. "We've had people on site all day. Obviously it's a tragic situation. Right now the information is very sketchy. We will be investigating along with various other entities investigating what happened.

"Right now we are worried about the families and concerned about the families primarily at this point."

Update: One of the victims has been identified thanks to the journalistic skills of Insite contributor and FOX 26 photographjer Torrey 'T-Dub' Walker. He found the victim's sister and got this picture of 21 year old Ramiro Sigala . He is a member of the construction team!

VELMA WANTS TO TELL HER SIDE OF THE STORY!

LAWS: HERE'S MY CARD, CALL ME IF YOU EVER HAVE A QUESTION!

It was a few weeks ago when I first reported about the controversy over at City Hall. Council member Ronald Green made it clear he wanted Affirmative Action Director Velma Laws out. He said she failed miserably at her job in ensuring opportunities for African Americans and women at the city of Houston. Only a few days later I ran into Laws. She said she wanted to set the record straight. However, the city director told me then was not the time or place. Laws gave me her business card and told me to call her directly whenever I have a question. She also said I should make sure I get her side of the story. I have plans on doing that this week. I even received an email a day later after the encounter with Laws from one of her supporters. He told me to make sure I follow up and get her side. That's exactly what I will do. And Mrs. Laws, thanks for dropping by the Insite!

Note: Don't want to leave the wrong impression. Velma was nice and as pleasant as always. She wasn't angry or upset just determined to make sure I get her side of the story!

UPDATE: A FACE TO PUT ON THE ALLEGED CRIME!

ACCUSED OF SHAKING DOWN LATINO MOTORISTS!

After several days the Texas Department of Public Safety finally released a picture to the Insite. It's a photo of the former State Trooper who is accused of shaking down several Latinos he pulled over on Texas highways. Do you know this guy? The original story is below:

Acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Loretta King and Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas Tim Johnson today announced the arrest of a former trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety who is charged with depriving multiple Latino motorists of their civil rights. According to the four count indictment returned by a federal Grand Jury in Corpus Christi, Texas, on April 8, 2009, Michael Anthony Higgins violated federal law by willfully stealing money from Latino motorists that he had stopped on the highway while working as a trooper.

"The brave work of our nation’s law enforcement officers must always be guided by adherence to the laws they are sworn to uphold," said Loretta King, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. "The Civil Rights Division will vigorously investigate and prosecute allegations where a law enforcement officer may have violated the rights of an individual."

"Whenever a law enforcement officer uses his or her position to violate the rights of a victim, quick action will be taken by this office," said Tim Johnson, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas. "When there are vulnerable victims as in this case, we will advocate for the strictest punishment allowed by law."

If convicted, Higgins faces a maximum sentence of up to four years in prison, restitution and a $400,000 fine. An indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case was investigated by the FBI, the Texas Rangers and Officers of the Texas Department of Public Safety. The case is being prosecuted by Ruben Perez of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas and Jim Felte from the Civil Rights Division.

ARE ALL THE TEA PARTIES ABOUT THE US GOVERNMENT'S SPENDING OR THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT?

WHY IS THIS THE FIRST SYMBOLIC AMERICAN REVOLT?

In case you haven't noticed the Insite has some Black friends. Don't be shocked. Anyway, those friends and I had a discussion over the weekend about the rash of Tea Parties that will soon take place all over the country on April 15th. One of those friends said while the organizers pretend to be nonpartisan nearly all of the events are orchestrated by White Republicans. That friend went on to say this is less about how the government is spending and more about the country's first Black President. In case you're lost right now the first Black President is Barack Obama. The very spirited discussion even left some of us split on the issue. One friend said we never heard a word about a tea party when then President George W. Bush spent billions on the war in Iraq. He said we never heard a single word in recent years about any planned revolts by American citizens under the watch of a White President. Some of them say this is more about White Republicans wanting to oust a President through old symbolism. Symbolism which will mean absolutely nothing at the end of the day because Obama was elected and not appointed. Do you agree? Is this more about President Obama rather than the spending by the US Congress? The Insite would love to hear your opinion on this issue!

AN IDEA THAT WILL DEFINITELY FLOAT IN THESE TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES!

WOULD YOU GO TO A BARTER FAIR AND ACTUALLY TRADE SOMETHING?

Likely before man could speak he needed to find a way to eat. So, how did he get that food? He traded. For a dinosaur's tooth you could get the meat of a saber-toothed tiger. That was the beginning of the bartering system. At least that's the way it began in my Jurassic mind. But there's a reason for my rambling thoughts on trading. Houston is having its annual barter fair. One of the Insite contacts is recommending it to our readers. That contact who is an attorney said one year he even bartered out his legal services. So, if you're interested in bartering and keeping your money in your pocket make sure you check out this event. By the way, is bartering something you would do to save on your cash?

Event:

The Houston Barter Fair will be held Saturday, May 9 from 1 - 4pm at the Live Oaks Friends Meeting House, 1318 W. 26th St, Houston, TX 77008. People from all over the area bring items, goods, and services to barter. Anything goes...garage sale items, garden produce, books, toys (kids are great negotiators and this event is a great cooperative teaching tool), baked goods, lessons/ services. NO money exchanges hands. Bartering is a time-honored tradition and is making a comeback in these trying economic times. This family event is free and open to the public.

DID YOU KNOW THERE WAS A LEMONADE DAY?

GOAL: BUILD YOUNG CAPITALIST!

When I first got the call I wanted to ask the public relations specialist what was she smoking. Then she told me she was serious, there is an actual Lemonade Day. I wanted to know exactly what happens on Lemonade Day and why would anyone in their right mind care. Apparently, there is an actual Lemonade Day coming and it's right around the corner. May 3rd to be more specific. I could just imagine a city of 4 million people getting blasted off of high octane Lemonade. Sadly, that's not the purpose at all. L-Day, as I now call it, was designed for the children. The event is celebrated by an organization that helps middle-school-age children realize the importance of being an entrepreneur. This year it will be celebrated at HISD. 'Prepared 4 Life' will help the young people set up their own lemonade stands across the city and set them on the track of capitalism. Do you think it's a good idea and will it work? The Insite wants to know what you think about Lemonade Day!

WOULD YOU SUPPORT A FAIR TAX IN THE USA?

TELL THE INSITE WHAT YOU FEEL ARE THE PROS AND CONS!

It's an idea that has been tossed around for years. However, our leaders in Congress have not bit on the proposal some say would set millions of Americans free. Free from the IRS and the Taxman. That proposal is a Fair Tax system. As the Insite understands it - the new process would eliminate income taxes and rid US citizens of the very complex tax code. How does it work? As American citizens we would be expected to pay a federal tax on all goods and services. One of the current bills in the House calls for a 23% sales tax rate. For example for every $100 we spend $23 would be tacked on by the feds as the official fair tax. Is this a proposal that you could live with? Should members of Congress also consider abolishing the Internal Revenue Service? What do you consider the pros and cons of the tax issue? The Insite would like to hear your opinion as we approach Tax Day!

Members of the Asian community expressed their disappointment in the department at City Council after they received word HPD Chief Harold Hurtt had no plans to replace Wong. It's clear those who make their concerns known will get results. Here's the department with the results in a press release received by the Insite. HPD is announcing another Asian is getting the position:

REMEMBERING TWO HOUSTON FIRE FIGHTERS: CAPTAIN JAMES HARLOW AND ROOKIE DAMION HOBBS!

LEAVE YOUR CONDOLENCES HERE ON THE INSITE!

TWO HOUSTON FIREFIGHTER REMEMBERED IN HOUSTON!

ARE YOU READY FOR THE HOUSTON TEA PARTY?

WILL THIS NATIONWIDE EFFORT SEND A MESSAGE!

It's a Tea Party - and it's revolutionary!!! On Tax Day, Wednesday, April 15th, at 4:00 p.m., taxpayers from across Houston and Southeast Texas will gather in downtown Houston at Jones Plaza to protest unprecedented government spending in Washington. Wednesday is the deadline for mailing federal income taxes.

Jones Plaza is located in the theater district across the street from Jones Hall, at 601 Louisiana at Capitol. The venue was changed from the earlier announced location, when interest from the public grew and more space was needed.

The Houston Tea Party Society is a non-partisan, grass-roots organization of citizen taxpayers demanding the roll-back of unprecedented spending legislation and socialist policy in Washington that threatens to erode our freedoms and put our children and grandchildren in debt for decades.

"Our commitment is to economic liberty," said Tea Party organizer Felicia Cravens. "We’re not defined by party politics - in fact, it is Washington politics that brought us here. 'We the people' want Washington to start listening - and not just to the special interests!! If they don't listen, we will find new leaders." Our U.S. Congress:

*Voted for the $787 billion stimulus package without even reading it

*Packed $7 billion in earmarks to special interests into the '09 Omnibus Spending Bill

*passed a budget expected to "double the publicly held national debt, to over $15 trillion"

Washington is taking our hard-earned wealth and redistributing it to others; punishing those who practice responsible financial behavior, rewarding those who do not; abandoning free market principles; and putting future generations in debt.

The Houston Tea Party website is located at http://www.houstontps.org/. The Society is planning future events, including a rally on July 4th, Independence Day.

WAIT UNTIL THIS SUMMER BEFORE YOU BUY A PHONE!

LOOK AT WHAT'S COMING TO YOUR CELLPHONE STORE THIS YEAR!

In the market for a smartphone? Unless you desperately need one today, it's a smart idea to wait -- at least until early June. Apple, Palm, and other companies are readying new phones for summer launches. And there's a good chance you'll want to try out one or more of them.

- Palm (PALM) hasn't announced when Sprint (S) will start selling the Pre, but it's promised the phone by the end of June. We haven't had a chance to play with one yet, but early reviews are very positive, and it should cost about what you'd expect -- $200 or so with a 2-year contract.

- Apple (AAPL) will likely announce a new iPhone at its Worldwide Developers Conference on or around June 8. The new phone will probably be faster and more powerful than the current iPhone -- think video, better camera, faster Internet, etc. -- around the current price. (It's possible the current iPhone will also get cheaper -- perhaps $99.) New iPhones might not be available for purchase until July. But it's worth waiting at least until Apple shows off what they're going to offer this year. The iPhone will still probably be an AT&T (T) exclusive this year.

- RIM (RIMM) is reportedly planning to launch a new BlackBerry at Verizon (VZ) in the next few months that combines a touchscreen with a full QWERTY keyboard. This will likely be better than the BlackBerry Storm on sale at Verizon today, which has an awkward click-button screen.

- Google (GOOG) might have a new Android phone on the market this summer. T-Mobile is planning a launch event for later this month, which could be for a new Android-based phone or a new Sidekick, according to Engadget.

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS SURVIVES HOSTAGE SITUATION!

U.S. Navy snipers fatally shot three pirates holding an American cargo-ship captain hostage after seeing that one of the pirates "had an AK-47 leveled at the captain's back," a military official said Sunday. The captain, who'd been held in a lifeboat in the Indian Ocean since Wednesday, was rescued uninjured, Navy Vice Adm. Bill Gortney told reporters.

Capt. Richard Phillips' ship, the Maersk Alabama, was stormed by pirates 350 miles off Somalia on Wednesday morning. He was "resting comfortably" on the USS Boxer after his rescue Sunday night, according to the Navy.

Phillips contacted his family and received a routine medical exam after his rescue at 7:19 p.m. (12:19 p.m. ET), the Navy Central Command said. Video from aboard the Boxer showed a smiling Phillips shaking hands with Navy personnel.

"The captain is in good health. He's showered up and in a clean set of clothes," Gortney said in a telephone news conference from Navy Central Command in Bahrain.

In Phillips' hometown of Underhill, Vermont, Maersk spokeswoman Alison McColl said Phillips' wife, Andrea, had spoken to her husband by phone after his rescue.

HAPPY EASTER ALL YOU INSITE READERS!

SHOULD GAY STUDENTS HAVE SPECIAL HOUSING?

WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON THIS ISSUE?

Eight students have signed up for Texas Christian University's designated on-campus housing for gay students and their supporters, in what may be the only such college housing in North Texas.

The DiversCity Q community will open in the fall in a section of the Tom Brown-Pete Wright apartments. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender students and allies — heterosexual classmates who support them — will have the chance to live together, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported in a story posted Tuesday on its Web site.

"It's a chance for students to be part of a unique experience," said David Cooper, TCU associate director for residential life.

TCU sophomore Shelly Newkirk, who is gay, applied to create the program. She said eight students have committed to live in the apartments.

"Well I've been trying to create a safe space on campus for the queer community," Newkirk said Tuesday in an interview with Dallas-Fort Worth television station KDFW. "We're not creating just like a bubble for ourselves, but creating a space where we can have open dialogue and students can be comfortable."

TCU will also open two Christian-based living groups, another for fine arts and three other themed housing arrangements. It's all part of the university's living-learning communities, designed for students who want to live with others who are like-minded.

Living-learning communities are common at universities in Denton and Tarrant counties, but none has an on-campus living program for gay students. A fraternity for gay and straight students opened in 1998 at the University of North Texas but had closed by 2001, University of North Texas spokeswoman Sarah Bahari said.

Neither Cooper nor Newkirk had received any criticism, they said.

"Surprisingly, I found nothing but support," said Newkirk. She said she was prepared for criticism.

"Sometimes those things can bring a community together," she said. "It doesn't have to tear us apart."

TWO HOUSTON FIREFIGHTERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY!

HARLOW AND HOBBS WILL BE REMEMBERED!

It has been a dark Easter Sunday for the city of Houston. Early this morning a veteran and rookie firefighter died battling a house fire on the southeast side of town. Captain James Harlow, 50, and Damion Hobbs, 30, are the first to die in the line of duty since 2005. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Harlow has been with the department since 1979, while Hobbs just graduated from the HFD Val Jahnke Training Facility last month. Autopsies will determine their exact cause of death.

Minutes after midnight fire crews responded to a house fire on Oak Vista near De Leon. They ran into the burning home while an elderly couple was running out. The couple was not hurt. Eventually, the decision was made to pull all of the firefighters out of the house.

"When they had the roll call after they came out, the firefighter who was the third member of the crew came out and told one of the chiefs two members of his crew didn't come out with him," said District Chief Tommy Dowdy.

Dowdy said the flames were so intense firefighters couldn't immediately go back inside to look for their fellow men. Cpt. Harlow and Hobbs were later carried out on stretchers while members of Houston Fire Station 26 stood at attention in a wall of honor. The two men died before making it to the hospital.

"A lot can go wrong when you're fighting a fire inside. They're prepared for it, but it's a risky situation, and we ought to remember that and keep them in our prayers," said Mayor Bill White, who arrived on the scene shortly after the fire started.

It is indeed a sad day when heroes die just doing their job. Neighbor Courtney Joseph said, "I wanted to grab one of them and say, 'Everything is going to be okay. Hang in there. Don't give up hope.'"

But on a day when so many celebrate life over death, it was hard to find hope in such a difficult time. At Station 26, the flag was lowered to half staff as members of the community brought flowers to the station and site of the fire.

Arson investigators have been at the scene all day which is common whenever there is a death.
