MY PRIZED POSSESSION AT MY HOUSE!

MICHAEL HAS BEEN ON MY WALL FOR MORE THAN A DECADE!

It was a gift I received back in the 1980's. A plaque commemorating the success of the Bad album. I worked at a radio station as a kid and the Epic Music record rep knew what a fanatical Michael Jackson fan I was. When his Bad album went platinum she gave me a plaque commemorating it while I worked at KQXL radio in Baton Rouge. She knew any Michael Jackson song that came out I was going to push for it to get top airplay. She even brought me a Michael Jackson tour book from the Dangerous tour. For the life of me I can't remember her name now. But she appreciated my support and I appreciated the work she did for Michael's albums. The plaque sits in my bedroom where it will stay. I also have a lot of other Michael Jackson memorabilia I will have to dig up now!

WHY DO WE MAKE A LICENSE PLURAL?

DID YOU GET THEM?

First, I thought it was a Louisiana thing. Then later I believed it was a hood thing. Then I just gave up. I wondered why people always pluralize a drivers license. Here's what I mean. When you go pick up your license some people say, "did you get them?" When someone can't find their license they'll say, "I can't find them." Why do we take a single item and make it more than one. I don't get it. I thought everyone else was crazy. Then I was at a state office and I noticed a pamphlet. It read see 'some' id. It also makes it plural in my book. Why do we refer to identification as more than one object? The Insite would like to hear legitimate justification so I can move on with my life!

COOL SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE DAY!

SHE WAS SO FLY IN HER LEXUS!

I was at the stop light on the southwest freeway at Weslayan Monday morning. I looked to my left and noticed a senior citizen behind the wheel. It was a lady who had to be in her 70's driving a very cool car. It was one of those Lexus sport coupes type cars. First, I couldn't believe she was still driving but on top of that she was fly. I say way to go Grandma. She was just keeping it real. I wanted to race her but I think she would leave me in the dust with her fancy blue Lexus!

WHY WERE THEY CONSTANTLY SMILING AND LAUGHING?

MAYBE THE GOVERNOR'S CONFESSION HAD A HELLUVA PUNCHLINE!

I was watching the press conference out of South Carolina when Republican Governor Mark Sanford admitted to an extramarital affair with another woman. During that press conference I noticed a female in the background who was constantly smiling and laughing. I wondered what was she thinking and doing. We have a Governor admitting to a bombshell and she is in the back laughing. There was another female just over the African American female's shoulder who was also laughing and smiling. The only thing I can come up with is they knew they were live on television and they may have been communicating with someone watching. Did you notice that at all?

REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR MARK SANFORD ADMITS AFFAIR WHILE HE DISAPPEARED FROM HIS JOB!

WOULD YOU STILL CONSIDER HIM AS A VIABLE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE!

Gov. Mark Sanford has always painted himself as a family man, a red state conservative whose annual Christmas cards featured pictures of his wife and their four sons.

So when he tearfully confessed a yearlong affair with a woman he visited on a secret trip to Argentina, reaction ranged from embarrassment over his behavior to pity for his family. But there was a common theme: surprise that the man named as a possible 2012 GOP presidential contender had been cheating on his wife.

"I was shocked, shocked," said Tom Daly, 42, a magazine editor in Charleston. "First of all he's a Republican golden boy and he's a strict, staunch conservative. I'm so shocked. It was something I did not expect."

Daly called it a blemish on South Carolina, and Ellen Brady, a computer network specialist from Charleston, wondered why it had to happen in her state.

"We're all mortified, absolutely mortified," she said. "It's splashed all over the news."

Gerald Walker, a 19-year-old student at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, said Sanford should not have told staffers he was hiking the Appalachian Trail when he was actually in Argentina for seven days. His spokesman repeated the lie to reporters, leading to several days of confusion over his whereabouts.

"He shouldn't have lied to us. He should have been up straight," Walker said. "It's very embarrassing for someone in a leadership role that we are supposed to respect, especially me being a young guy."

Judith Thompson, 66, who works at the South Carolina Nurses Association across the street from the governor's mansion, said she was concerned for the families involved.

"It's a very sad moment for all the people in this state," she said.

Stephanie Byrd, 20, a University of South Carolina student selling Italian ice from a street cart, also called the affair sad.

"It seems to happen to a lot of movie stars so it's not like it's surprising, but it's kind of disappointing for someone who is supposed to help you through things and represent you," she said.

South Carolina women's basketball recruit Kelsey Bone, meanwhile, laughed about the where-is-he-now nature of the news in the state she has called home for just three weeks.

"First he was on the Appalachian Trail, now he's in Argentina," said Bone, 17, from Houston. "And I was like, 'How do you get the two mixed up?' These past few weeks, there's never a dull moment."

THE FOX 26 MORNING ANCHORS TALK ABOUT ISIAH CAREY DAY!

CLERK LOREN JACKSON GETS MAJOR HONOR!

MAKING THE GENERATION 'X' CROWD PROUD!

Skepticism abounds about the ability of Generation X to successfully fill the leadership roles of workaholic Baby Boomers. Often perceived as laid-back, the new generation of political and business leaders has a lot to prove. Loren Jackson, the new Harris County District Clerk (HCDC), and youngest leader in Harris County government, has done just that—and more. In his short time in office, Jackson has taken strides beyond his predecessors in harnessing technological innovations and maximizing efficiency to save taxpayer’s money.

At only 30, Jackson represents a new generation of visionary leaders who take a positive approach to public service. Most recently, his contributions to the Harris County community have earned him top honors as one of the Jaycees Five Outstanding Young Houstonians of 2009.

Sworn into office on November 18, 2008, the hardworking new District Clerk has raised the base-line salaries of his employees, streamlined the efficiency of all HCDC departments, and brought the office’s services into the digital era. Jackson, who grew up with technology, understands the tremendous value it can bring to the county.

“Each generation is obliged to inspire the next to great leadership,” Jackson said. “Having been born into the latter part of Generation X, I’m fortunate. I see the tremendous value in the wealth of experience Baby Boomers bring, both collectively and individually; but I also understand that Generation Y lives, works and most importantly, communicates in completely different ways. Going forward, technology will play a big part in motivating young leaders and raising the standard of public service. It’s up to us, as Generation X, to serve as that bridge who inspires and utilizes the best of both generations, along with what we bring to leadership. If we fail to do so, we’re missing out on a great opportunity to improve our government.”

To that end, he remains focused on utilizing technology for better and faster services to members of the bar and the general public while delivering a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly office. His many initiatives have quickly garnered praise from local attorneys and others who dread waiting in line at the Courthouse.

“I am both humbled and honored in even being nominated for this award - let alone winning,” Jackson said. “I'd like to thank my nominator and the Houston Jaycees for their choosing me out of a pool of many nominees. I will continue to serve the people of Harris County with civility, humility, and respect."

First introduced in 1932, the Five Outstanding Young Houstonians Award has become an annual tradition. Each year, the Houston Jaycees and Houston Junior Chamber Foundation honor five Houstonians between the ages of 21 and 41 for their extraordinary achievements and contributions in many areas including community service, business, the arts, politics and athletics.

Jackson, along with fellow recipients Shannon Buggs, Alberto Cardenas Jr., Sean Carter and Norman Nolasco, will be formally honored at a banquet on June 23. Previous recipients of this 77-year-old award include George H. W. Bush, Howard Hughes and Dan Rather.

GENE LOCKE ADDS SOME VETERANS TO HIS CAMPAIGN!

THE NEW FACES IN CHARGE OF THE MAYORAL RACE!

Houston mayoral candidate Gene Locke today announced the addition of two senior aides to his campaign staff.

Joining the Locke team are Christian Archer, a veteran of numerous winning political campaigns, as Campaign Manager, and Kim Devlin, a seasoned political professional and native of Houston, as Senior Advisor.

Archer has a strong history of creating winning campaign strategies for many Texas campaigns. In addition to helping former Austin Mayor Will Wynn and Houston Mayor Bill White get elected, he was a key force in the landslide win of former San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger. Archer’s most recent victory was for Julian Castro, the newly elected mayor of San Antonio, who won his campaign in May without a run-off in a field of nine candidates.

Devlin who will be advising Locke on media and press, has over a decade of experience serving as campaign manager, senior strategist, advisor and communications consultant on numerous winning national, state and local campaigns across the country. Kim is a native Houstonian, who began her career working with many Texas candidates, including former Houston Mayor Lee Brown’s campaign in 1997. She most recently served as a senior strategist for communications and outreach for Media Matters for America, the nation’s premier progressive media watchdog.

“The addition of these two well recognized professionals at this stage of the campaign affords us an important opportunity to take advantage of the momentum our campaign has garnered,” Locke said. “Christian and Kim will bring an increased sense of excitement to the whole team and I am thrilled to have them on board.”

KRIS BANKS STOPS BY THE INSITE WITH THE RESULTS OF THE POLL!

WHERE DO YOU STAND ON THE SAME-SEX COUPLES ISSUE!

A poll conducted by Texas Lyceum, a non-profit, non-partisan organization, and released Tuesday showed that about 57 percent of Texans now believe same-sex couples should receive some sort of legal recognition, whether civil unions or marriage.

“This poll shows the shifting public attitude toward the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community,” said Kris Banks, president of the Houston GLBT Political Caucus. “It shows that tolerance and acceptance are becoming the norm, if they aren’t already.”

Just four years ago, an overwhelming majority in Texas passed a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex unions.

“It’s amazing how far we have come by being out and being politically active” Banks said. “Those who peddle in invoking fear of our community for political advantage should take notice that their bag of tricks is now empty.”

For more information on the poll, see

IT'S OFFICIAL: THE COUNTY JUDGE BANS THE SALE OF FIREWORKS IN THE COUNTY!

DOES IT MATTER TO YOU IF YOU CAN BUY THEM?

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett issued a county disaster declaration this afternoon, banning the sale and use of all stick rockets and missiles with fins within Harris County.

With Harris County experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures and dry conditions for several weeks, Emmett said, the risk of wildfires and damage to residential and commercial property is unacceptably high and warrants the countywide ban on the specified fireworks. The judge noted that many fireworks merchants already have agreed to a voluntary ban on the sale of the items, a move Emmett praised as responsible and civic-minded.

"Public safety is my top priority in this matter, and this declaration is absolutely necessary to ensure that Harris County residents remain as safe as possible in these weather conditions," said Emmett. "While I applaud the voluntary sales ban to which many merchants have already agreed, this declaration extends that ban not just to sales, but also to the use and transportation of these particular fireworks by anyone other than a licensed pyrotechnics expert at a permitted event."

Emmett's disaster declaration takes effect at midnight tonight. Under state law, the ban remains in effect for 60 hours - until noon Friday - unless extended by Gov. Rick Perry. Emmett has notified the governor's office of the disaster declaration by telephone and letter this afternoon.

"I strongly encourage residents of Harris County to enjoy the activities leading up to the Independence Day holiday, but to do it in such a way that protects themselves, their families and their neighbors," said Emmett.

Laws and ordinances vary within Harris County, with some jurisdictions and municipalities outlawing the use of all fireworks. Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with all related regulations before using fireworks of any kind.

ARAMARK MUST FORK UP THOUSANDS TO KEEP THE LIQUOR FLOWING IN TEXAS!

FAKE VISAS, PROSTITUTION, ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND MORE!

ONE STOP SHOPPING AT A HOUSTON MODELING STUDIO!

Man Hui Cho, 55, and his wife, Ki Sun Park, 54, both of Houston, have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a bribery, visa fraud and an alien importation for prostitution purposes conspiracy, United States Attorney Tim Johnson announced today. United States District Judge Lynn Hughes sentenced Cho and Park to 12 months plus one day and 18 months imprisonment, respectively, to be followed by three years of supervised release. The defendants were also ordered to forfeit the more than $40,000 in bribe payments they made to law enforcement officials posing as corrupt federal agents.

In February 2006, Cho and Park approached a Houston Police Department (HPD) officer for the purpose of inquiring whether he would be willing to provide advance tips on when HPD's Vice Division or Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would be conducting inspections of the two sexually-oriented businesses they then owned and operated, La Premiere Femme and Sakura Spa. The Cho and Park knew the females working at their businesses were engaging in prostitution and that at least some of the females from South Korea, who not only worked but also lived at the businesses, had no legal status in the United States and would be subject to deportation if discovered by law enforcement.

Beginning in March 2006 and continuing through August 2007, the defendants met with an undercover federal officer posing as a corrupt law enforcement official willing to provide the requested information to the defendants and made monthly payments of $1,500 to the FBI Undercover for the assurance that such information would be provided. On or about Aug. 9, 2006, and pursuant to the investigation, the officer provided a tip to Park that law enforcement would be inspecting the businesses. Surveillance determined that as a result of the rouse tip, the defendants moved the undocumented alien workers out of the businesses after the tip was received.

In November 2006, Park inquired whether the undercover officer could assist in obtaining working permits for two aliens from South Korea who worked at the businesses and whose passports had expired. They later met with the officer and an ICE special agent who was posing as a corrupt federal official willing to provide fraudulent immigration documents. The defendants ultimately paid $10,000 to the ICE agent for two fraudulently procured employment authorization documents (EADs), which they believed would allow the out of status aliens to legally work in the United States.

In addition to payments for the two illegally procured EADs, the defendants ultimately made more than $30,000 in bribe payments to the FBI undercover officer during the course of the conspiracy.

This case was investigated by the FBI, ICE and HPD and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jason Varnado.

ANNISE PARKER CELEBRATING A LONG LIST OF ENDORSEMENTS!

THE LIST OF NAMES WAS TOO LONG TO POST ON THE INSITE!

Today, the Annise Parker for Mayor Campaign announced endorsements from 56 Houston precinct chairs. These local leaders have stepped forward to support Parker for her leadership and experience, long-time commitment to neighborhood and community development and ability to manage Houston’s economy during troubled economic times.

“It is critical that we have a mayor who understands city departments and finances as we work ourselves through the recession. Without question, Annise has the leadership skills, analytical ability and the right vision for the City of Houston. She is the kind of mayor we need for Houston,” said Sherrie Matula, Precinct 721 Chair and Senate District 11 Chair for Harris County.

“These endorsements are especially significant to me as they come from communities throughout Houston,” said Parker. “It will take all of us to keep our city moving forward in these tough times, and I am grateful to have the support of these local leaders.”

“Annise has represented all of Houston for nearly 12 years, first as council member at large and then as city controller. She is a forward-thinking leader with a proven track record. I appreciate her common-sense, common-ground approach to government and am confident that she is the candidate we need to move Houston forward,” stated Richard Cantú, Precinct 105 Judge (since 1996).

THE HARRIS COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY SAYS PREPARE FOR ETHICS REFORM!

WILL THIS MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN POLITICS?

Harris County Commissioners Court is scheduled to take up consideration Tuesday of a five-part ethics reform package designed to clarify public expectations and requirements of county employees and officials and to substantially increase transparency in Harris County government.

The proposals, proposed by Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, are an outgrowth of a series of recommendations made by the independent five-member Citizens Task Force on Ethics Reform appointed by Emmett last year to review "best practices" in government and private sector ethics. After repeated reviews by the county's lawyers, the Harris County Attorney's Office reported earlier this year that Commissioners Court may implement five of the task force's recommendations. Other recommendations likely would require the passage of enabling legislation by the state Legislature.

"Harris County employees and elected officials are already complying with state law and exhibiting ethical behavior, but there have been substantial changes in technology and in county processes since the county's Code of Ethics was last reviewed in 1994," said Emmett. "I want county residents to rest assured that their employees and officials have the most up-to-date training and that their government is as transparent as it can be. It's time for us to take this significant step forward."

The proposals - which include voluntary lobbyist registration, the immediate Web posting of all required personal and financial disclosure forms, adoption of a Statement of Ethics, establishment of a Harris County Ethics Committee, and implementation of employee ethics training - have been reviewed by the Harris County Attorney's Office, which opined earlier this year that Commissioners Court is authorized to implement all five of the recommendations.

Commissioners Court will consider the measures at its regularly scheduled meeting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, in the Commissioners Court courtroom on the ninth floor of the Harris County Administration Building at 1001 Preston in downtown Houston.

PETER BROWN SAYS WE CAN DO BETTER IN HOUSTON!

BROWN: WE NEED TO PUT OFFICERS BACK ON THE BEAT!

Houston City Councilman Peter Brown is responding to the HPD release on Monday that showed a drop in crime in Houston. Here's his statement:

“Clearly Houston as made some progress, but we must remain vigilant when it comes to fighting crime. Putting officers back on the beat, streamlining channels of communication between agencies and investing in state of the art crime-fighting technologies are key components in keeping Houston safe.

"The Real-Time Crime Center provides critical information to officers responding to crimes, and helps formulate crime-fighting strategies based on the patterns of criminal behavior. Houston has made a substantial investment in this technology and this is further evidence that strategic investment in technologies like this save money and save lives in Houston. We need to continue and expand the use of these resources, which drive more efficient policing strategies in addition to providing for more accountable policing."

BEYONCE' KICKS OFF MAJOR TOUR IN NEW YORK AND THE INSITE IS THERE!

IRVIN WILLIAMS GIVES YOU A FRONT ROW SEAT AT THE BIG EVENT!

Insite contributing Correspondent Irvin Williams was on the scene as Houston's favorite daughter kicked off the I AM tour. Here's more from Irv who was on the ground in the big apple all weekend long:

By: Irvin Williams

Jay-Z made an appearance during the first song (Crazy In Love/Deja Vu). The tour was awesome and I cannot wait to see it again from the front row in Houston.

This tour had custom designed costumes by Thierry Muglier.

During the show Beyonce interacts with the audience more than ever on this tour. She was very much "at home".

I just hope she doesn't front for Houston and say the same thing lol.

This tour shows a more mature side of beyonce and allows a closer view because there is a second stage "B Stage" closer towards the back of most venues where she does a 30 minute performance.

On 6/22/09 she kicked off www.showyourhelpinghand.com and presented a 50K check from Columbia records. In almost every city they are accepting donations and once you donate there is an timeline exhibit with all of Beyoncé's achievements.

IS HOUSTON A SAFE CITY?

THE LATEST CRIME DATA ANALYZED!

Houston’s crime statistics for the first five months of 2009 indicate the city’s violent crime rate has decreased 1.9 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Murders were down by 9.6 percent.

However, from January through May, there was an increase of 4.6 percent in property crimes compared to the same period in 2008.

“Due to the current economic recession, property crimes are increasing all across America, and now in Houston,” said HPD Chief Harold Hurtt. “Since the first of the year, the Houston Police Department has noticed an increase in residential burglaries," he said. "The crimes are being committed citywide during daylight hours, when many people are away from home."

“Yet, unlike other areas of the country, Houston is fortunate that our economy continued to prosper for much of 2008,” said Chief Hurtt. “Some of our crime prevention initiatives, like our Auto Theft Bait Car Program, helped drop auto thefts by 5.5 percent to help keep our non-violent numbers in check.”

According to the FBI’s recently released “2008 Crime in the United States” Report on violent and non-violent crime, murder was down 4.4 percent nationally, whereas Houston experienced a 16.4 percent decrease in murders.

According to FBI crime statistics released earlier this month, Houston is one of the safest large cities in the U.S.

Nationwide robberies were down an average of 1.1 percent; while Houston saw a 7.6 percent decrease in robberies.

The FBI report indicated the national average for property crimes declined 1.6 percent in 2008. Houston far exceeded that improvement by posting a 10.2 percent decrease in combined crimes of burglary, theft, and auto theft in 2008.

Chief Hurtt lauded the efforts of the HPD Crime Reduction Unit and its 60 officers in targeting hot spot areas around the city as identified in crime trend reports relayed by patrol commanders to the Crime Center.

The 24/7 Real Time Crime Center provides meaningful and trustworthy direction to law enforcement management in assigning overtime officers to combat a variety of unlawful activities including gangs and organized crime.

Under the “Officers to the Streets” Program, the HPD also identified positions in the department where officers could be replaced by civilian personnel. That program added an additional 87 officers to patrol the streets.

“Additionally, he said, “the main focus of the Keep Houston SAFE campaign is crime prevention.”

This involves proactive enforcement efforts and measures aimed at the reduction of criminal incidents, rather than responding to crimes after they are reported.

“Please do not hesitate to call 911 to report suspicious activity in your neighborhoods, and please remove valuable items from inside your cars,” he said.

“Crime prevention starts with each person. If we all do our part to fight crime and make it as hard as possible for a criminal to commit a crime, we are helping to Keep Houston SAFE,” Chief Hurtt added.
