I WONDER IF GLENN BECK KNOWS HE MADE HER CRY?

DEBRA MEDINA TACKLES HER FIRST NATIONAL CONTROVERSY!

I ran into Texas Gubernatorial candidate Derbra Medina (blue dress) in Spring late Thursday afternoon. The Wharton resident has been on the ride of her life. She's running for Governor of Texas on the Republican ticket.

She has surprised pollsters with a grassroots movement that keeps her in the game against big name opponents like Governor Rick Perry and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Until Thursday morning it was a tough but pleasant campaign for Medina. That is until she encountered Glenn Beck. She made an appearance on the nationally known talk show host's radio program.

Beck questioned Medina about her alleged ties to what some call 9/11 Truthers. Those are people who believe the federal government had a role in bringing down the twin towers in New York. When Medina answered the question she didn't completely disavow the group or make it clear she didn't believe the federal government had a role in the attacks. As a result Medina was left looking like a card carrying member of the fringe group. She now clarifies saying she's not a truther and doesn't believe the government was involved.

By Thursday afternoon Medina was north of Houston pressing on with her campaign despite finding herself in the middle of her first national controversy.

I had a chance to talk with the candidate who eventually had tears in her eyes. She said, "I knew this was coming." Her pain and frustrations are tied directly to what she felt was an attack by Beck and the Republican establishment in Texas.

Medina said she knew they couldn't attack her for her personal life because there are no skeletons in her closet. She said what hurts so bad is to be attacked so publicly in front of her family and children.

The nurse by trade with her eyes welling up said she's going to continue to fight despite the bump in the road.

Today Medina learned the hard way that politics is not an easy game to play. A game where the stakes are high and everything about you is open to scrutiny.

As I watched wipe away the water from her face I wondered if Glenn Beck knew he made her cry!

  1. Truth hurts. Crying is the admission of feeling guilty of being in that "fringe" group.

    She wasn't attacked.

    Her nutty views were attacked.

She's running for public office. Public debate of nutty views is to be expected.

The better question is why so many Texas journalists put together fawning profiles of the woman instead of asking her some tough questions themselves. It's kind of sad that a national radio/tv political entertainer had to do their jobs for them.

  3. All she had to say was no but she just had to try and sound like a politician.

  4. Well so no one had a comment about the MERCK vaccine deal or the Trans National Corridor or the Countrywide bailouts by Rick Perry huh? I'm not a truther but I agree with John Farmer, who was the Senior Counsel for the 9/11 Commission and the other 5 of the 10 who now say the report is false. She is not a truther for not believing the official story that just makes you all RETARDED.
