Deputies were called after 9:30 a.m. Sunday to Smith's home on Grand River Drive and found the body. They have identified the drowning victim as a 37-year-old man from the Katy area who was a family friend of Smith and not a professional athlete.

Investigators found no signs of trauma on the body of the drowning victim.
Witnesses told investigators that there was a party Saturday night at Smith's home.
Smith, 29, has been on the Texans roster since 2009 and has played 7 seasons in the NFL.

"We are aware of the situation," said Rick Smith, Texans general manager, in a statement released by the team.
"We are gathering the facts and have no further comment at this time."

  1. This exact thing is why I don't want a pool. I just can't handle having someone die at my house. That's why I won't ever get a pool, that and I can't afford one.
