IS $348,000 ENOUGH TO KEEP HER LEGALLY PROTECTED?????
Former Mayor Pro Tem and current City Counciler Carol Alvarado will be faced with a large bill after the bonus-gate investigation. She's hired high profile criminal defense attorney Rusty Hardin and high profile public relations guru Joe Householder. So can she afford this heavy assault on the legal woes that may wait here in Chuck Rosenthal's (District Attorney) office. Well, the Insite has pulled Alvarado's campaign finance report to show you how much the veteran Houston lawmaker has in her war chest. Do you think she can go the distance with the cash on hand? As the Insite first reported almost two weeks ago, it's the same 2006 campaign finance reports that Rosenthal said caused him to take a closer look at Alvarado.
CLICK DOCUMENTS TO GET A CLOSER LOOK AND NOTICE WHO SIGNS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SECOND PAGE AS NOTARY PUBLIC - ROSITA HERNANDEZ....ANY QUESTIONS?
UPDATE: THE INSITE JUST TALKED WITH A CITY HALL INSIDER AND THEY SAY IT'S NOT UNUSUAL TO HAVE HERNANDEZ SIGN AS NOTARY PUBLIC ON FINANCE REPORTS - THE MAYOR PRO TEM'S OFFICE IS WHERE MOST COUNCIL MEMBERS GET THEIR REPORTS NOTARIZED...
carol is finding herself deeper and deeper in the hole. I'm not quite sure if she could raise the money needed to protect herself. And it's unfortunate because she seemed to be good for the city and her district.
ReplyDeleteMH
How could we trust anything that Rosita Hernandez signs if she's accused of forging Alvarado's signature. Any city document that Hernandez has touched is suspect at best. I would suggest you bring this to the attention of Rosenthal if he hasn't discovered it himself. Sometimes the best kept secrets are right there in outr faces.
ReplyDeleteOk, I want to know one thing: Is she part of the program whereby the _city_ handles all the paperwork & stuff necessary to become a notary? They do that so offices which need forms notarized can have one immediately available.
ReplyDeleteBut a city notary stamping a campaign document? Whoa.
Ubu Roi
Hey, Isiah!
ReplyDeleteGood sleuthing work you've done!
But hey! Don't let that City Hall
"insider" mislead you!
Since when are political office holders allowed to handle campaign-
related work while on either the
government's clock or while on
government property?
It's not allowed.
If Carol Alvarado were to admit that Rosie Hernandez prepared and
notarized her campaign finance reports while on City property and
on City time, she could get in trouble for that!
Speaking of Rosie Hernandez,
she did a lot of my typing when she
first came on board with the City
back in 1994. She didn't stay long in my Department, (Municipal Courts) though...She was only there for about a year...and I remember that when she left that department, she was headed to the Mayor's office. (Bob Lanier was
Mayor back then).
Hey, here's a first for you--!
(I haven't heard it reported by
any other media outlet yet):
Rosie was married at a very early
age (15)--and when she came to work
at the Municipal Courts, she was
about 30 years old and had been
married for close to 15 years--!
To the same fella! (I believe that
she had three or four children)...
Hey! Keep digging! And you're
liable to run across the REAL papers that may have prompted
DA Rosenthal to expand his investigation--hint: and Rosie's
name does not appear on any of the
papers I am referring to...
You're a great reporter, Isiah!
Tip of my hat to you! You really
try!
It'll be crystal clear, however, that Carol Alvarado concealed some
information from the media...
but all of that concealed information is bound to make its way into both--Houston print and broadcast media in due time.
Remember the adage:
"What's done in the dark,
will come to light!"
In response to Ubu Roi's question
ReplyDeleteconcerning the City handling their
own Notary seals, etc...
The answer is "No"...
The Texas Secretary of State's
Notary Public office handles
paperwork/registry for all Notary
Publics in Texas--Rosita Hernandez
included.
One thing that's out of sorts, though, is the fact that City of
Houston elected officials DO NOT
FILE their campaign finance reports
with the Texas Ethics Commission--
which is the state agency which is
supposed to handle enforcement of
the filing and timeliness of such
reports.
City of Houston elected officials
FILE THEIR REPORTS WITH THE CITY
SECRETARY (ANNA RUSSELL) ONLY!
Want to verify? Call that toll-free number at the top of the
campaign finance report form
(1-800-325-8506) and talk to
an Elections attorney there
and that's the answer you will get!
By the way--I checked Rosita
Hernandez's address which was
on file with the Texas Secretary
of State's Notary Public Department
at the time that she notarized
Alvarado's campaign reports--
(7400 Highmeadow, #74--Houston,
Texas 77063)--and that address
is non-existent!
That information can be verified
on the U.S. Postal Service's
website, among other address
verifying-type services available
on the Web...
(That's another "first" for you,
Isiah!)
ngharrah: sorry, maybe I wasn't clear -- only the state can make you a notary, but someone's got to go through a lot of paperwork _with_ the state. Who fills it all out and pays the fee (if any)? Let me explain why I'm out of sorts over this: I was once a notary for the city myself, and did ZILCH to become one. I filled out no applications, paid no fees, attended no training sessions. I can't even recall having to provide an ID. I simply agreed to do it and some time later, a notary stamp with my name on it and a book were delivered.
ReplyDeleteI'm also upset because where I work, any association with a camapaign by a city employee is strongly discouraged. When someone dropped off campaign literature in the break room, the managers went ballistic.
Of course, it was a challenger's, not an incumbent's.
Finally, if the incumbents get to have Rosita stamp their forms, was this service provided at the same cost to non-incumbent candidates?

In response to Ubu Roi's question
ReplyDeleteabout acquisition of notary seals,
payments to the Secretary of State,
etc...
Those type of "supplies" are acquired through each City Department through the designated
individual(s) who handle procurement.
Remember that the City has a picture ID of every employee--and
and your signature(s)which they
secured as you were submitting
your application for employment and
going through orientation for the
position which you were filling,etc...and of course they would foot the bill on a notary seal for an employee to perform notary services on what is
deemed to be "city business"--
which in this case--it appears as
though Council members having purchase orders or other statements
related to City business notarized
by an on-site notary is understandable...and that is probably why you did not get any
type of training for it..because you would be notarizing work or
City-related documents only...but campaign-related documents? NO!
Isiah might want to research how
a phony address was attached to
Rosita Hernandez's notary application to the Texas Secretary
of State...Who was handling procurement for the Pro Tem's office?
Orta and Mays also notarized campaign finance reports for
Alvarado--but their addresses
checked out with the information on
file with the Secretary of State's Notary Public office.
What they are confusing as city
business (which is campaign business) doesn't exonerate them
from having the City foot the bill
on notarization of their campaign
report(s), using a City employee
on a City time clock to do it.
IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE!
Notaries in Texas charge a minimum
of $6 per signature--(that's about
as much as Isiah had to pay CVS
for parking the other night!)--
And hey--! I've had to pay as
much as $40 for a single notary signature before!
And if the Council members have
had to file campaign finance reports 30 days prior to the election, 8 days prior to the election, etc., then it all keeps
adding up...You can also add into
that the accumulated or collective
time that it takes the on-site City
notary to perform the "free work"...
As for your question concerning
whether challengers had/have the
right to a free notary ride compliments of the City...I would
venture to say "no"--all you have
to do is do a comparison check of
incumbents versus challengers...
Who notarized their documents?
Chances are that none of the challengers got a freebie notary
compliments of the City.
Check with Mr. Parras--or check his
Campaign Finance Reports--he was
Alvarado's challenger...
Hope I've answered your question in
an adequate fashion...if not...
let me know!
I have known Rosie Hernandez for over 25 yrs. Almost everything about her is a lie. Yes, she's come a long way from the 2nd ward barrio where she started, to the Mayor's office. But I can tell you she didn't get there through hard work and integrity. As we all know, she lied on her application to the City.
ReplyDeleteShe wasn't married at 15. She dropped out of school with a 9th grade education, and NO, she did not get her GED either, that's a lie too(if she had, it would be on record with the State), had a baby with a gangster from California who ended up in prison and then came back to Houston and was fortunate enough to meet a guy willing to take care of her and raise and support her baby. She lived with him in a common law relationship and had 3 more children. Then left all 4 children with him to pursue her "white collar dream". She basically abandoned her children for at least 5 yrs without calling or visiting and then had the nerve to play the 'mother of the year' role at work. Claiming to be a struggling, single mother of 4. What a joke! She also defrauded the system by collecting food stamps and welfare checks while not even having custody of her children. They all lived with their dad. Check government records, it's all there in black and white. All the while slandering his character and good name to this day. (I heard what she said on the radio the other morning, UNBELIEVABLE!)
This woman has no shame and will stop at nothing to get what she wants - look at how she's already turned on Carol Alvarado who was supposedly one of her best friends. All this to cover her own behind.
Do I sound angry? YOU BET! Those are my tax dollars that she stole. She needs to be held accountable! I guess the old cliché is true, you can take the girl out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the girl. She needs to stop living ' La Vida Loca' and tell the truth for once.
What's the deal? Did the truth stump everyone? Sometimes the truth hurts but somebody's gotta tell it. Enough with the lies already! Every word said can be verified. I wish I could feel sorry for Rosie but this is what happens when you lie, cheat and steal. It ALWAYS comes back to bite you in the ass!
ReplyDeleteBe careful of poster Ngharrah. She is none other than Nora Soto Gutierrez who has made a living for the last ten years of suing Sylvia Garcia. In the last ten years, she has supported herself by gambling in Lousiana and now that she has returned to Corpus Christi, Texas, she can't even hold down a job. She also steals from people.
