WELCOME TO GEORGIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A former co-worker of The Insite has returned back to Houston after a nightmarish stay in Georgia. Laqunta Dixon took a job there more than a year ago as an editor and producer at a local television station. She says she started to see a lot of inequalities when it came to African Americans in the station. And as any sane person would do she voiced her opinion about what she considered to be clear racism. The result - she had the word "Nigger" etched in her car. Here are her pictures and a small portion of the details in her own words.

what: went to work... around noon went outside to my car to get something and looked at the
passenger door... "nigga" was keyed on my car
why: i believe several people i was working with were upset because of my bringing attention to racism in the newsroom. Especially within management... how they disregarded stories important to other races... the way certain stories were written... etc. just after this incident with my car... someone tied a noose in my 5:30 editor's bay... who's also black... we went to the news director about it and he told the editor "i guess someone is trying to tell you something"
it is so sad when things like this can still happen in the year 2006. it just goes to show no matter how far whites say we have comje we still have a long ugly way to go

ReplyDelete"white". you have no proof! maybe the producer did it to themselves to bring attention or start a "news story". maybe someone really did do this to her. thats awful!!!
But, are you being just as bad by the two above comments. i have also seen the reverse happen. not as drastic, but still-i have seen black people in florida do some racism on whites for no good reason. they act like this never happens. thats putting your head in the sand! who is worse?
did she call the police and insist on taking finger prints on the car door or windows? i would have. some people like i said just like to start trouble. i'm very, very sad and sorry for her, and the gentlemen if this did indeed happen.
i do wish we could take this incidents on an individual occurance and leave out the innocent parties on "both sides" black and white.
i really think the world would be a safer and more enjoyable place if we all just would try harder to understand each other and be more tolerant on both sides of this fence. peace
who cares if there is racism by blacks to whites...we owe them for many years. we're just playing catch up
ReplyDeleteIt looks like that key reads Viagra, but I could be wrong. Anyway, you should give Georgia a second chance. If anything, the inbreeding there is fantastic.
ReplyDeletefor the person who said the producer did this to herself.. you're just plains stupid... who would put themselves through such agony. I hope the young lady learned from the incident and gained strengh. It is important that we not try to disguise racism when it happens.

ReplyDeletei don't think it matters... the issue is not where it happened but that it happened and you see the pictures
ReplyDeleteI know LaQuanta personally and have heard many other stories about racism she's faced at that station. I know her to be an upstanding, hard-working professional with integrity. I seriously doubt the producer put the noose there themselves.
