DO YOU THINK HE SHOULD GO TOE TO TOE WITH THE COMPETITION?The Insite hears Harris County District Attorney candidate C.O. Bradford has given a thumbs down to a future debate for the office he is seeking. That debate is being put on by the Harris County Criminal Lawyer's Association. Sources say Bradford was invited to take part in a future debate that would include the likes of Kelly Siegler, Pat Lycos and Jim Lietner. Attorneys who are apart of the group that's putting on the debate say they were shocked at Bradford's refusal to take part. So far The Insite has not been able to talk with Bradford about the alleged snub. The Insite has a question for the readers out there: Should Bradford take part in the debate or is it his right to say no? The Insite would love to hear your response to this issue!
New Information: Bradford tells an Insite Street Team Member he wasn't officially invited to this event. This comes despite some local prominent attorneys claiming he was. Bradford also tells the street teamer his staff is looking into the matter to determine the details about the debate before he makes a decision or even considers it. The Insite will keep you updated!
As a citizen of the City of Houston, I would expect for any candidate seeking office to readily accept an invitation to participate in a debate. This gives the voter an opportunity to see for themselves how the candidate responds to tough issues.
ReplyDeleteNow, in the case of Bradford, there is a unique twist. Did it say that there would be three republican candidates and Bradford? That seems a bit irregular to me. Why not wait to debate Bradford once a solid republican candidate has been selected? Otherwise, it appears to be a gang up. One on one...best way to go. AND SHOW UP!!!
I agree that he should participate in any legitimate debate. If some fringe element is planning a "debate" as a way to sandbag somebody, for example, I'd have no problem with missing that.
ReplyDeleteBradford won't join the debate because he knows that he is out of his league. He has no trial experience, no experience as a street cop or investigator, and he was totally unqualified to be appointed as police chief.
ReplyDeleteWhy is this group trying to paint the Chief into a corner? These are the primaries people. It makes no sense to have him go up against three Republicans because either he 1) wouldn't get a word in edgewise, and/or 2) they'd gang up on him. It simply would not be fair. This lawyers group is willing to make the Chief look bad so they must be a bunch of Republicans. They should quit playing games, pick their candidate and call Bradford over the summer.
ReplyDeleteBradford did good. Not to take the invitation. He needs to do what he's doing right now. Just wait and see - who's really going to be in the General election.
ReplyDeleteThen the 1 on 1 debate will be on -like donkey cong.
They should just give him the job. He was given every other job he's ever had.
ReplyDeleteWhy should Bradford expose himself to the risk of a debate? The media has no interest in talking about his role in the HPD crime lab mess - they'd rather attack the most qualified opponent he has ad naseum. I'm still seriously waiting to hear why a guy who has never prosecuted or defended a criminal case in court is more qualified to decide who to charge, who to indict, who to give probation and who to send to prison or death row than someone like Kelly Siegler or Jim Leitner, who have spent decades handling evidence and talking to juries. If Bradford stands up and debates, he might just show that he knows less than Lykos and Perry about criminal prosecution. He should just sit quiet. With the press on a witch-hunt for Siegler, and Leitner being a horrid criminal defense lawyer, all C.B. has to do is sit back, keep his head down, and say nothing - nothing about his qualifications, his knowledge of the law, his ability to pick a jury, his position on drugs or violence, or how he'd clean up that dastardly HPD crime lab, now that he has ANOTHER chance. If the press doesn't seem interested in asking those hard questions of him, why should he voluntarily put himself out there? That would just be silly.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Bradford handle the crime lab mess?
ReplyDeleteHe is a wreck and out of his league.
He needs to sit down because he would be worse than that DA in NEw Orleans.
Plus his breath smell like boo boo.
Pat Lykos would be a good choice right now after the mess Chuck has made. As a successful State District Judge,I would choose her over Kelly's years of incestuous political showboating.
ReplyDeleteIf you thought Chuck was a demanding dictator what do you possibly thing Kelly will be?
As a voter, I'd like to see Bradford participate in debating the other candidates. I doubt they'd spend much time bashing him since they all know they have to get the nomination before they can run against him. It's not like any of them will lack plenty of topics to discuss once the GOP field is narrowed down, yes?
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, while it would not be in his best interests to debate, anyone that has seen him speak in public will understand what I mean, I sure hope Isiah was the one that split the hair by saying Bradford wasn't formally invited to the debate rather than Bradford playing semantic games as a means to stay away from public scrutiny that much longer.
