ReplyDeleteIsiah, you forgot to report that popular former Houston Mayor Louie Welch (D) passed away at his home yesterday afternoon at the age of 89.
ReplyDeleteWelch served 5 consecutive terms from 1964 to 1974.
His tenure also had controversial, including racial tensions between Houston police and Blacks at Texas Southern University in May 1967, plus the racist Police Chief, Herman Short-who was appointed to the position by Welch.
Welch tried a political comeback in 1985 when he ran against incumbent Kathy Whitmire (D), until Welch opened his big mouth and said, 'SHOOT THE QUEERS', the gay activists responded by giving out t-shirts saying, "DON'T SHOOT, LOUIE."
Welch lost the 1985 Mayor's race by getting his you-know-what handed to him by Whitmire: 58% to 40%.
