A COUNCILMAN WHO MAKES SURE HE ADDRESSES THE ISSUE!The Insite wrote a post a couple of days ago about the rough condition of Airline Drive just south of the loop. The post did not fall on deaf ears. Houston Councilman Adrian Garcia responded to the Insite with his effort to address the bumpy road. I spoke with him on the phone while attempting to verify his letter Friday afternoon. He says he had the same impression as I did when he drove down the road and now he's working to fix it. Here's what he wrote:
Isiah:
Read your blog about Airline Drive and thank you for sharing in my concern. I made this street a priority when I first took office and it continues to be a priority for me.
Allow me to give you and your readers an update on the progress that has been made on getting Airline reconstructed. This project is not a simple overlay project. This is a comprehensive reconstruction project that in addition to the improvements to the road it will also include upgrading storm sewers, water lines, sanitary sewers as well as improved lighting along Airline. As you can imagine, a project such as this is time intensive, and requires a lot of attention to detail, and not to mention that it also requires a large budget.

Phase I includes engineering input from Public Works, Traffic Management as well as from Drainage. This phase is scheduled to be completed by March 2008. We will then enter into Phase II which is the Design Phase of the project. The RCA (Request for Council Action) to hire the design company is anticipated by June of 2008.
I have seen copies of the preliminary reports and am pleased with the suggestions brought forth for Airline Drive which include the new sidewalks that are handicapped accessible, newly engineered corners that better accommodate the truck traffic and new storm sewers which allow for better drainage.
The goal is then to start construction by April 2009, which could take over a year to complete!
Next time you decide to cut through the neighborhood, stop and support the great eating places we have along Airline, you may even want to pickup some fresh fruit and vegetables from the Produce Market!
In all seriousness, thanks for taking notice but hopefully this will let your readers know that I have been working to get some much needed improvements to this area.
Thanks,
Adrian Garcia
Council Member

ReplyDeleteHe began service on Council in 2004, and the road may finally see some reconstruction in 2009?
I'd hate to see how bad it would be if he were NOT such a priority for the candidate for Harris County sheriff.
Sheriff Garcia will take care of this road and will also rid the Harris County Sheriff's Office of all the RACIST Wanna BE GRAND KKK WIZARDS.Imagine how all of those rednecks must feel knowing that thier shit is coming to an end. It's time for a chnage and it's coming.
ReplyDeleteI will be voting for Andrain. We need change. And real damn quick!
ReplyDeleteAdrain Garcia chief pothole fixer
ReplyDeleteFinally a project he can handle
ReplyDeleteMr. Garcia,
ReplyDeleteCould you please contact my council person to see if the stretch of Dairy Ashford between Whittington and Memorial can be repaved or fixed because for the past 3 years its also is mired with front end ruining pot holes that is wrecking havoc on thousands of cars including mine each and evey day.
I understand that this is an election year and politicians who are up for election are most likely to listen to concerns of citizens but This one needs to be a high priority. If you need more proof of the condition of the road I can email you pictures of the roads horrible condition.
kevin whited must be playing dumb or maybe he really is dumb because he should know the process of improvement programs at the CIty. Someone from city council should invite this pantywaste to intern at Council or PW&E so that he can observe how it takes years to get these projects introduced, financed, planned, started and completed. The lifespan of a project typically is longer than three terms of the council member who began the project. And why is this? Because douchebags like kevin whited implemented term limits that also limit the ability of officials to finish what they started.
ReplyDeleteHis blog sucks and he has no friends so he torments the rest of us with his depressingly bad sarcasm and excruciating lack of wit.
Pick up some prostitutes and crack while you are on Airline as well!!!! He does have a good point though. There are several good restaurants on Airline. Try "Golden Seafoods" garlic shrimp MMMMMM MMMMMM. Don't bring your nice car though and pack your concealed handgun
