MORE PATCHES THAN MY GRANDMOTHER'S QUILT!

I was driving home Monday night when 45 North became just a headache. It was backed up for several miles. I assume there was an accident. So I decided to get off the interstate and hit some side streets. That was a big mistake. I ended up driving down Airline between Main and 610. It was one of the roughest, rockiest, uncomfortable rides I'd ever taken. There were so many patches it looked like one of my Grandmother's quilts. That street was tore up from the floor up. I don't know if residents in the area have failed to report it or the city is out of money but that street needs to be condemned until it can be repaired. It could leave one with a slight case of wiplash. It's unfortunate investigative and consumer reporters no longer focus on bad streets because Airline definitely needs a light shined on it. So I'm sending out this warning: Avoid Airline between Main and 610 at all costs!
C'mon Isiah!!! Admit it, you were cruising for a Ho'!!!! Airline? At night? Either crack or prostitues. Which was it?
ReplyDeleteThat's what I love about some insite readers - you guys trust no one...You would make a great reporter - trust no one and verify everything...But the comment is very funny!
ReplyDeleteIsiah:
ReplyDeleteRead your blog about Airline Drive and thank you for sharing in my concern. I made this street a priority when I first took office and it continues to be a priority for me.
Allow me to give you and your readers an update on the progress that has been made on getting Airline reconstructed. This project is not a simple overlay project. This is a comprehensive reconstruction project that in addition to the improvements to the road it will also include upgrading storm sewers, water lines, sanitary sewers as well as improved lighting along Airline. As you can imagine, a project such as this is time intensive, and requires a lot of attention to detail, and not to mention that it also requires a large budget.
Phase I includes engineering input from Public Works, Traffic Management as well as from Drainage. This phase is scheduled to be completed by March 2008. We will then enter into Phase II which is the Design Phase of the project. The RCA (Request for Council Action) to hire the design company is anticipated by June of 2008.
I have seen copies of the preliminary reports and am pleased with the suggestions brought forth for Airline Drive which include the new sidewalks that are handicapped accessible, newly engineered corners that better accommodate the truck traffic and new storm sewers which allow for better drainage.
The goal is then to start construction by April 2009, which could take over a year to complete!
Next time you decide to cut through the neighborhood, stop and support the great eating places we have along Airline, you may even want to pickup some fresh fruit and vegetables from the Produce Market!
In all seriousness, thanks for taking notice but hopefully this will let your readers know that I have been working to get some much needed improvements to this area.
Thanks,
Adrian Garcia
