ANOTHER SO CALLED COMMUNITY ACTIVIST IS AT IT AGAIN!

ARE SOME OF THEM MODERN DAY STICK UP ARTISTS?

The Insite received this letter from a person I'm trying to help with a family matter. That person has encountered one of those so called 'community activist' who's looking to get paid. Here's what that person wrote. When you're done reading tell me what you think should be done to the alleged 'community activists.'

Here's the email:

Mr. Carey,

My concern is so high on this situation. We were working with a self-proclaimed community activist that stated how he could help with getting ****** out of Harris (jail) County. Well, low and behold, it was a person in it for self-glorification. ********, who I found on the web to be a support to the community has put us around in circles. He claimed to have a close relationship with the media, including you.

I was very upset and disappointed when he scheduled several press conferences to discuss this issue and they were all of a sudden canceled. The last so-called press conference was to be today @ 7:00PM. But, no media attended. He then claimed it was because of my so-called association with *******(who I do not know and do not claim to know). He has been a hinderous to this situation, while a young man sits in jail. Finally, after not getting any results, he makes a comment that he does not want to be left out of his cut. (I am assuming a lawsuit with the county). No one is talking lawsuit, no one is talking complaint. Right now, we are talking about getting ******* home and safe, as well as getting him the medical attention he may need for this attack.

I hurt for people like ********, who thrive on others pain to achieve self-gratification. But this is not a time to bicker or fight. Now ****** is demanding money in order to help a community need. It hurts. It is disgusting. Because we refuse, he has now taken it as far as threatening the lives of the family as well as the life of the young man in prison. In front of the family (even children ages 2 to 14), he threaten to have ******* beaten more than what the constables were alleged to have done. This is ridiculous.

Insite: What do you think about the people who offer help in the community for pay?

it is time for that self pro-claimed community activist to be identified and held accountable.

Especially if community activist x is lying or making outrageous claims and promisises about his connection to you and other media.

Is it also your responsibility (and others) to tell that person to stop using your name?

But, in fairness - there are people in many lines of "work" who try to make a profit with their so called ability to connect people to the media.

Whether its Roger "hgh" Clemens hiring a big time slick pr company...or someone...in the 'hood being paid to get a story out in the media.

They all have the same goal.

One too many XXXXXX references. Difficult to distinguish when the XXXXXX is for the inmate or the activist. I hardly doubt that physical threats have been made to anyone for a fee to be paid. Why are they sending this to The Insight and not the authoriites? What a poor attempt to instigate drama - and what's sad is that people will be gullible enough to believe this exaggerated story. Also, let's not be so critical of our 100+ "Houston Activists" (by the way, there is a full roster of them - we don't know WHO this person is writing about - don't jump to conclusions). The activists could not make a "for-profit business" of their community outreach without the media willingly airing whatever tragic ghetto-ness that is press released to them. Let's not be so limited in our thinking people.

When will we learn. 99% of the people we think have power in the black community have none. If you have a medical problem call your doctor. Legal problem call a lawyer. All other problems call your elected leadership, that is what there are there for.

It's funny that this is a story. Is this not what white people have been talking about all this time and is this not what we have been falling for all this time?

Hey Isiah, you need to tell your writer to contact Smokie Phillips, he is the Black Deputies union President.

He is always concern about matters of abuse and has insite with jail officials. he can be reached at the Afro-American Sheriff's Deputy League Union office.

Verify what the writer is claiming then expose what this bad activist person is trying to do.

With regards to the post: "Hey Isiah, you need to tell your writer to contact Smokie Phillips, he is the Black Deputies union President.
He is always concern about matters of abuse and has insite with jail officials. he can be reached at the Afro-American Sheriff's Deputy League Union office."

Why is there even an "Afro-American Sheriff's Deputy League Union" in 2008? If there were a "Caucasian-American Sheriff's Deputy League Union" there would be such an outcry about the racist white officers that they would probably be fired in a heartbeat.

Why is it that white people seem to be the only people consistently labeled as racist?

  9. It is always hurtful to a person seeking assistance from another individual who claims to be able to help only to find that the supposed helpful person is in it for some time of monetary gain. It is upsetting because your motives are all wrong. Then again with gas prices as high as they are..............*shrug*
