THE EMPTY CRY OF RACISM!

THEY'RE PICKING ON ME BECAUSE I'M BLACK!

When most of us hear someone making a claim of racism we take it very seriously. We analyze the situation and determine if there is a legitimate claim. On Friday and Saturday of last week that cry of racism was heard loud and clear. This time from a 44 year old out of work Katrina evacuee. He claimed detectives were essentially harassing him because he was Black. I'm sure there were some people out there who believed him. But 2 days later those people found out their trust was misplaced in Theron Owens. His Mother and Grandmother were found stabbed to death in their Spring home. Owens said he found them that way. He also told several media outlets he was being harassed by Harris County detectives simply because he was African American and from New Orleans. Monday Owens admitted to investigators he killed his Mom and Grandmother after an argument over a car. He used his race and his birthplace as a deflector to his crime. The question the Insite has for you is a simple one. When people misuse racism as a deflector like Owens - does it hurt legitimate cases of discrimination? Or do you just write off this guy's actions? The Insite would love to hear what you have to say about this!

Just blow it off....another black man screaming about being oppressed by evil white cops....same argument gets made every day.....isn't pretty much always used to deflect responsibility for one's actions?

  2. I think a public apology/shaming is in order.

This Tom Joyner lookalike needs to be locked up. I pinned him as guilty from day one as he stood before cameras with the crocodile tears and shocked expression on his face.

It's a shame he played the racism card and yes I believe it does place harm on future incidents (and we know there will be future incidents...how sad) when people are truly targeted simply because of the color of their skin.

The people of New Orleans who suffered tremendously at the hands of Katrina are the ones who need to take a crack at this fool. Many people are still trying to get back on their feet and continue to need assistance from Houston's police, fire, emergency and social service entities. He is ruining the opportunity for others to receive much needed assistance with his tragic antics. Secondly, we should mourn the loss of his mother and grandmother...who too, I assume were simply trying to come up from other devastations. Shame on him. Yes, racism does exist, but there clearly has to be someone who is being "racists." Continuing to laud such terms at "thin air" is getting old and tired.
Shame on him and God bless his family.

"when people are truly targeted simply because of the color of their skin"

Has it happened? YES....Will it happen again? PROBABLY.... Is it as prevalent as the black community claims? NOT EVEN CLOSE

The first thing the black community claims when someone is arrested/charged is that it's about race. It is used as a crutch too often, but the black community knows that by hollering "RACISM" it will change the focus of the investigation.

I see that the anonymous racist in the first comment is back. I also noticed that you did not address the question that was posed. Could it be that you dot not believe that there are ANY legitimate reports of racism. If you do believe this, then you need to look out for the lions, tigers and bears on your way to see the wizard.

Quoting -- Is it as prevalent as the black community claims? NOT EVEN CLOSE

I find this interesting. How can you speak on the emotion of a community if you are not a member of that community?

That's like me asking - Is illegal parking in a handicap space as prevalent as the physically challenged claim? And then I ignorantly answer --> Not even close.

Unless I am physically challenged night, day, every hour every minute and am experiencing life as a physically challenged person I have no right to speak on what happens to or with members of that community. Anything I express about what they "feel", "think" and endure would be purely emotional.

And perhaps you are African American...but maybe racism didn't exist on your planet. Try skipping over to the South East side of Houston or minority populated areas and ask the residents their opinion. I'm sure their response differs drastically because they haven't walked in your shoes - or you in theirs.

Of course there are individuals who cry false tales of racism. That happens in every minority group. But despite false accusations we cannot ignore the credible cries of inequality, put rose tinted glasses on and claim that racism is not as huge an issue as "people" make it...that's incorrect.

Racism exists around us every single day. Post #1 on this blog makes it crystal clear. Posting "anonymously" in such instances with your thoughts on the black man is no different than donning the white sheet and riding on your a$$ I mean horses in the midnight hour. If you're man enough to claim it then be man enough to say it... without hiding.

I stand by my first post.....and I have the right to post it anonymously. If you can't handle the truth, then it's your problem, not mine. I'm not a racist white person....actually I'm Hispanic and Native American, but my point was that criminals, mostly black, make the claim, daily, that they "were targeted" be white cops SOLEY because of the color of their skin....and it's my opinion (I still get to express them in this country last time I checked) that claim is used about 99.9% of the time to deflect responsibility for their actions. Do I think racism exists, yes, on all levels and with people of ALL colors...but it's not as pervasive, today, as it was decades ago. The race bias cry is certainly more empty these days...which is why I answered Ike's question with a simple suggestion: just blow it off. If all you, the majority of whom post anonymously yourselves, want to attribute ulterior motives to my statements, go ahead. Doesn't change my opinions at all.....Gotta love the second ammendment, huh? That's what burns most of your asses' the most: you want to wrap yourselves in the 2nd ammendment when it suites YOUR purposes, but not when it's used to present an argument that runs counter to your groupthink mentality.....

Amen, brother of another color! The problem with our people is we lean on this race card crutch for too long now. It is actually dragging us down as a race. We can be anything/anybody we want to be now. We have brothers and sisters who MBA's and Law Degrees from Harvard, Yale and other Ivy League schools. Our people are being suppressed by our own Government and we as a whole are not opening up our eyes to it. The Democratic party "pays" us (welfare)to do nothing in this world. We believe they are "entitlements". If we care for each other, let's help our brothers and sisters find jobs and go to school. We can not as a race continue to allow ouselves to stay in the gutter as the Government wishes for us to. Everyone I know who either went to school or has a "legitimate" job will tell you, they are treated far superior to those of us who drain the system and use their Lonestar cards. We should listen to the words of Bill Cosby, a man who truely cares about the plight of our people in TODAY'S society and not reliving the past two hundred years.

The post above me is NOT from a black person and it is soooo obvious. It is another lame attempt to stereotype black people. To the poster who claims to be Mexican and Native America, many of "Your people” have experienced racism and racial profiling on a daily basis. You are probably one who has a “semi professional” job and is trying to pass as being white. You are in denial. I say semi professional because you are VERY ignorant, but try to come across as being intelligent. I guess you do not know anything about LULAC do you. They stand up for racial injustices against Hispanics. Google them, they are you people.

To the other anonymous racist, I am an attorney and it is not the 2nd Amendment, It is the First Amendment that gives us the right to free speech. I knew that you were ignorant, but not THAT ignorant.

    Love

    Nicole

  12. Well if we're going to have "Hate Crimes", shouldn't we have stiffer penalties when hate is falsely accused. Sure might have made a difference to some Duke boys, or some six Tawana Brawley / Al Sharpton victims.
By the way I'm kind of tired of hearing about the poor victims of Katrina anyway it's time to pull yourself up and do something with your life. Stop playing the victim and rebuild your life, Texans did it after Rita.
