| Jolanda Jones and The Insite! |
It's after nearly every station in town reported about her latest Office of Inspector General Investigation. This is the second in less than two months. The first complaint was thrown out.
Jones says the latest allegations she calls an intentional 'distraction' has only helped her alert Houstonians about their rights when they're stopped by a Houston police officer.
She calls it a distraction because the council member has been chastised mainly by police officers for putting out what they call polarizing literature.
Jones is reportedly under investigation by the OIG for allegedly using her office to benefit her law practice.
Jones says she's been handing out the card 'Know Your Rights' more than a decade and she doesn't use her public office for personal gain.
That card instructs people how they should behave when stopped by a cop and it also includes a number to Jones' law practice and city council office. That's where it could be considered an violation.
But Jones tells the Insite since the reports that have aired about her alleged violations left her phone ringing off the hook Wednesday.
She says it's been people wanting to get a copy of that card so they will know their rights when stopped by police.
To avoid any appearance of impropriety Jones is still trying to figure out how to get those people copies of the controversial card.
By the way, Jones has since taken her office number off the card which also advertises her law practice!

Years ago she used to run an ad in the African-American newspaper that wasn't so politically correct. It used to say all police officers are liars and don't trust them.
ReplyDeleteShe is a disgrace to the good people of the city of Houston....but what do you expect from someone who associates with the likes of Quanell X.
I read the card and found it very helpful. A lot of my peers DO NOT KNOW they don't have to allow an officer to search their vehicle or home!
ReplyDeleteIf people you associate with are commonly harassed and disrespected by police officers you would want them informed also.
I see no problem informing people of their rights... IT IS A RIGHT!
Big Thanks to Council member Jones!
The problem is that she is a council member soliciting people to call her if they want a lawyer. Let's flip the scenario and say it was an HPD passing out fliers advising people of their constitutional right not to re-elect her, how to remove her from office, or even of the factual derogatory statements she has made to HFD. I am pretty sure she and others would be asking for that officer to be disciplined. She is a City of Houston employee and public servant just like an HPD officer and should be held to the same standards.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the card? Do you have a PDF of the card? I havent seen this specific card from Jolanda Jones, but it seems similar to those provided by other organizations including the ACLU (just one example, dont get upset)

Intentional or not, it does generate attention. As a result, people contact her directly for advice or even counsel.

@DoubleStandard44 She is not only a council member, but also a citizen. HPD officers often provide private security and solicit their services.
ReplyDeleteThe card was handed out at a private event where she provided her legal opinion. If she solicited from her office or at an official COH event, thats different... I dont think that was a good comparison.
@IC why doesn't it alert or send e-mails when someone else comments? jus sayin...
