IT WASN'T NO DELPIT'S CHICKEN SHACK!!!!!!

Just over a year after former Houston Texan's player (currently with the Dallas Cowboys) Aaron Glenn opened the Dallas based highly sucessful Williams Chicken franchise store in Houston, it has closed. I drove by the store on I-45 north and noticed the name had been taken down and business was abandoned. When it first opened in Houston I had hopes that it would be good eating. The building reminded me of the old Delpit's Chicken Shack in Baton Rouge, La. The chicken there is great. So with high expectations I stopped by Williams Chicken and purchased a two piece. Well I haven't been back since and obviously neither have many other people because the doors are closed. No word from Mr. Glenn why it closed. But I have a pretty good guess. Glenn also opened another location on Little York but there's no word if that one is still open. Bye bye Williams, you gave it a good Houston try.
WORTHLESS FOOTNOTE: While I was still in college at Southern University at the age of 19 I hosted a public affairs talk show in Baton Rouge on the local NBC affiliate called Crossroads. And the theme song to my show was "Shock The Monkey" and one of the sponsors of the show was Delpit's Chicken Shack - and their slogan: Delpit's Where The Chicken Is Knuckle Sucking Good!!!

ReplyDeleteHa Ha Ha you're so funny!
I love you man!
I believe there is still a Williams in Prairie View, visible off of 290. I'm not surprised that a Dallas chicken chain did not make it- not with Houston's Hartz Chicken Buffet! They have over 50 locations. Just remember to get a new tray evey time you return to the buffet, that's for sanitary purposes!

you just brought back a lot of memories cuz I remember the chicken shack from BR, It was good.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if Aaron Glenn is the actual franchise owner but there is still at least 2 Williams Chicken stores that are still open (either Murphy Road @ 59 or W.Bellfort @ 59, and there is another in Missouri City on Fuqua).
ReplyDeleteThat Williams chicken was already in town. We call it "Church's Chicken." They taste exactly the same. I believe the two Ft Bend County Williams Chickens are still open, although the one on Murphy looked dead the last time I went by there. But as long as the original Frenchy's Chicken is town... everyone else will second-rate.
ReplyDeleteThe on in Prairie View is still opened.
ReplyDeleteBeing from Fort Worth, I can say that Williams Chicken's chicken is off da chain! Some of my friends joke with me saying I haven't had real chicken until I've eaten French's (I think that's the name of it). So yeah, I'ma hafta check out their chicken!
there indeed is a williams chicken @ wilcrest @ 59.
