RODRIGUEZ: IT'S ALL ABOUT CREDIBILITY!“METRO has a credibility problem with my constituents. I have received numerous complaints about METRO and its credibility since taking office three months ago.
There are concerns with both the East End (Harrisburg) and University (Wheeler) Corridor that have not been properly addressed. Today’s story about the potential shortening of the East End Corridor was frustrating. However, it was METRO’s statement about the City of Houston building a grade separation for them that pushed my frustration over the edge.
METRO needs to start taking responsibility for its own actions and do a better job of planning. The city works diligently to meet the needs of our constituents. We have annual Capital Improvement Plan meetings to give Houstonians an opportunity to submit their requests for major infrastructure projects. We cannot put our constituents’ requests on the back burner so that we can foot METRO’s bill for a bridge and help them meet their deadline.
Until METRO addresses all these concerns, I cannot in good conscience support the Consent Agreement that is expected to come before Council in the near future.”
UPDATE:
According Rodriguez's staff he met with METRO on Friday and convinced them to get
the corridor back on track. He even brought Freight Rail District to table, which
is helping move this project forward.
