DO YOU KNOW WHERE TO VOTE ON TUESDAY?

TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY!

The Democratic Party and Republican Party Primary Run-Off Elections will take place Tuesday, April 8, 2008. On Election Day, eligible voters may vote from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the poll designated for their voting precinct.

“Due to an anticipated low voter turnout, the political parties have drastically reduced the number of polling locations,” said Harris County Clerk Beverly Kaufman, the chief elections officer of the County. “It is more important than ever for voters to ascertain their polling location before heading to the polls.” For the Run-Off Election, the Democratic Party will only open 35 polling locations and the Republican Party 60.

The voter turnout has been light compared to March 4th. According to the County Clerk’s Daily Record of Early Voting in-person, in five days of voting in the Primary Run-Off approximately 3,000 voters had cast ballots in the Democratic Election and about 15,000 in the Republican Election. In the same number of days of voting a month ago nearly 60,000 persons had voted in the Democratic Primary and about 20,000 in the Republican Primary.

In the Primary Runoff Election Harris County voters will decide a total of ten political contests where no candidate received fifty percent plus-one of the votes last month. Voters who did NOT participate on March 4th are free to vote in either of the elections but not both. Voters who voted on March 4th can only vote in the runoff primary election of the party in which they previously participated.
