By Doug Deloney: A Houston Police Department officer is undergoing surgery after he was shot by two burglary suspects at a northwest Houston apartment complex.
Officer Frank Pierce was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical but stable condition after he was shot once in abdomen at an apartment complex in the 9700 block of Pine Lake.
Pierce, who lives and works as a courtesy officer at the complex, was making rounds at the complex just before noon Monday when he saw a man come out of an apartment carrying electronics. Then a second suspect followed him out and shot at Pierce.
Pierce tried to shoot back at the suspects, but they jumped in a white Ford pickup truck and fled the scene.
The officer then radioed in the suspects’ vehicle information, and they were arrested less than two hours later at a shopping center on Highway 290 at Jones Road.
A FOX 26 News camera videotaped one of the suspects saying, "I'm sorry mama."
During the search for the men, Spring Branch ISD briefly locked down Woodview Elementary School because of its proximity to the shooting scene.
Pierce works out of the South Central Police Station and has been on the force for three years.
