THE POLITICAL SEASON IS IN FULL SWING!

HE BLAMES HIS OPPONENT FOR ALLEGEDLY STEALING HIS SIGNS AND CALLS THE ACTIVITY GANGSTA!

City Councilman Jarvis Johnson sent out at a text at 7:30 am Thursday morning saying he woke up to find all of his campaign signs missing in his neighborhood. Johnson writes, "they can steal my signs but not my spirit." Johnson levels the allegation against his opponent in the text saying, "SJL camp took every sign from MY hood including my house leaving SJL signs only. Damn that's gangsta!!"

As many of you know Johnson is challenging Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee for her seat in the 18th Congressional District. Sean Roberts is also vying for the position.

The question is: Was it really gangsta or a criminal act. Theft of political sign? The Insite would like to hear your opinion!

  2. Stealing signs off private property is against the law (not to mention desperate).

  3. It may have been the SJL camp but if it was in his own nieghborhood it could have been some close that doesnt like him.

  4. Theft of personal property, regardless if it is a political sign or not is still theft of personal property. It is also criminal trespass to walk onto private property to steal the sign. It is also a crime to post signs in the public right of way and any citizen has a legal right to remove them. However, it is also a crime to use signs so removed for other purposes (garage sale signs etc.) So depending where the sign is/was, it might or it might not be a crime.

  5. I think it was just a crime. If not, why are all of Mr. Johnson's signs in my neighborhood still standing as well as the signs not in people's yard on vacant lots and the sides of the freeways not stolen. Maybe his neighbors know something that we should know about Mr. Johnson.

  6. I think it's a crime that after election day they don't go back and remove all of those signs from all the places they were left. I think it's a bit of a contradiction really... vote for me, I love this city.. but my signs will stay up on this road for a year after the election.
