What a surprise! Wasn't it Assistant Chief Vickie King who said that officers don't need to be working security assignments in the courthouse? Well Chief King, don't you remember saying that it would save taxpayers money by using private security guards instead of police officers? I didn't understand how adding to the payroll was going to save the taxpayers anything.
This is why these self-proclaimed change agents are dangerous. They are so eager to make a name for themselves that they don't care whose lives they turn upside down in the process. This was fuzzy math then and it's embarrassing now.
And now she's trying to get the city to take over funeral escorts. For what reason, Vickie? Is it the extra star you're bucking for or do you think it's okay to bilk the dead for another tax?
With a staffing shortfall of 1500 officers you'd think that we'd have better things to be concerned with like finding ways to reduce the load on patrol or giving the few officers on patrol a working radio system.
