A Houston Police officer is being accused of stealing money from people during traffic stops.
Officer Matthias Dornellien, 24, is charged with theft by a public servant, a 3rd-degree felony.
HPDs Internal Affairs Department set up a sting operation after receiving a complaint about Dornellian, a Harris County District Attorneys Office spokeswoman said.
An undercover officer posed as a citizen in a traffic stop.
When Dornellien ordered the officer out of the car, he reached into his pockets and pulled out more than $100 in marked bills.
Police stopped Dornellien shortly after he left the scene and recovered the marked bills.
An IAD investigation resulted in him being relieved of duty on Aug. 20.
Dornellien was sworn in as an officer on Nov. 9 and was assigned to the south central patrol division.
If convicted, he could face 2 to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $100,000.
Hardly surprising.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why everyone puts their faith and trust into the police, because from my observations, they can be just as corrupt, even more so, as anybody else walking on the street, even more so because they have a uniform and can pretty much get away with anything.
The power goes to their heads, you see.
In fact, these types of reports among the police are becoming more frequent these days.
