THE INSITE'S REVIEW OF THE MOVIE THE HELP!

After reading the animosity from some African American authors about the movie 'The Help', I was all prepared to hate it.

But I'm sorry writers, the movie released this summer by DreamWorks was excellent.

It's an emotional roller coaster ride that will leave you angry, cheering, crying, and jumping for joy.

It is the little summer movie that could. On a mere $25 million budget it's already pulled in $140 million and for good reason. It's the hit of the summer and I recommend you go see it.

I hope the Academy doesn't forget this one come Oscar time because director Tate Taylor should be recognized for brilliant work.

Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer breath life into their characters making them perfect choices for the roles.  A cameo by Cicely Tyson in the movie is amazing.  Hats off to Sissy Spacek who has you laughing throughout the movie every time she appears as the  forgetful matriarch of the Walters family.

It's just good old fashioned storytelling and movie making. Go see it now!

Kathryn Stockett
Controversy: Some in the African American community were upset about the movie because of how it came to be.

Critics claimed a White writer in 2011 could not adequately tell the story of Black maids in 1960's Mississippi.

The book was written by first time author and Jackson, Ms. native Kathryn Stockett. A White female in my opinion who nailed it.
