Willie D lashes out |
Ex-front man Willie D of the legendary rap group the Geto Boys had a lot to say about Mel Gibson’s planned movie based on the life of religious icon Judah Maccabee and morals of the controversial Republican group the Tea Party.

Press Release: Willie D, formerly of the Geto Boys, the groundbreaking rap group known for their socially conscious and abrasive lyrics, didn’t appreciate members of the Tea Party laughing at uninsured Americans dying because they can’t afford health-care nor does he accede to Mel Gibson becoming director and/ or star of a new movie intended to capture the life of Judah Maccabee, a Jewish hero who led the Maccabean revolt against the Seleucid Empire.
The internationally, respected rapper recently took to his twitter account @WillieDLive saying:
“This to me – Gibson's insensitivity to the Jewish community- is indicative of Mel's cockiness and sense of entitlement like members of the Tea Party who believe that if a 30 year old in the U.S. rolls into the emergency room in need of medical help and they're uninsured they should be left to die!”
Prominent Jewish leaders are also speaking out against Mel Gibson and Warner Bros. over their planned release. Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti Defamation League, who criticized Gibson’s controversial 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter in response to the news.
“Judah Maccabee deserves better. He is a hero of the Jewish people and a universal hero in the struggle for religious liberty. It would be a travesty to have his story told by one who has no respect and sensitivity for other people’s religious views,” Foxman tells THR of the project, which is being co-developed by Basic Instinct writer Joe Eszterhas.
Willie D was even more direct. “I'm the first one to fight for freedom of speech but Mel Gibson is a trip! He has declared cinematic war on the Jews. Whether he was right or wrong, it's not what you do it's how you do it. Not saying he needs permission to earn a living but it's a little thing called common sense. If you're going to shoot a multi-million dollar movie about Jews and Jews aren't supporting it then who are you shooting it for? What's the big deal with just getting an understanding? That makes me think something more sinister is going on. If someone has a problem with me, let's address. Respect the code. He doesn’t even have enough respect to just sit and talk to the Jewish community and explain his position. That ain't cool.”
During the Tea Party debate last Tuesday, hosted by CNN, moderator Wolf Blitzer asked Ron Paul if we should just let a hypothetical 30 year old without health insurance die, and someone shouted “Yes!” to much applause from those in attendance. Willie D responded by calling the Tea Party “the KKK reincarnated.” He then stated that the biggest problem with America is we don't care about each other and we look down on those who have less:
“We hate anyone that don't look like us or think like us. We neglect our elderly - the ones who built this country - and we neglect our children. That's why kids are going into schools with a shoot'em up bang, bang mentality! THEY ARE IN PAIN. That's why when someone loses their job they go postal and shoot everybody... because no one cares anymore. It's every man for himself. That's why every major reality TV show's ratings are driven by conflict & hatred. These shows are #1 because we made them #1. We enjoy them because deep down inside no matter how much we laugh WE ARE IN PAIN" the rapper said.
The lambasting concluded with Willie D praising Gibson and the Tea Party for their contributions to society… well sort of.
He tweeted:
“Hey Mel and all you pompous [expletive] tea baggers out there... Thanks for the pain.”
Note: The Insite placed a call to the local Tea Party in Houston to get a comment before I posted this. So far, I have not heard back from the group to get a comment on Willie D's remarks!
Willie! Where have you been my friend? It's about time someone stood up to that society ruining Mel Gibson. I only wish you had not gone to prison for ripping off people so you could have spoken out even sooner. You know- Mel was making a movie about the life of Jesus while you were producing profanity laden music. I wonder what makes you Willie , any better or worse than Mel Gibson? Oh yeah- the Tea Party is a far cry from the clan.
ReplyDeleteAny intelligent person would be able to tell the difference. Well, we are talking Willie so I guess he gets a pass.
Willie D is right!!! Once America cared about the American people, society, and our country...Each day it seems as if our country is turning into a 3rd world country..The rich people who God blessed with fortunes, look down on the middle-class and poor class..Not saying RICH people are suppose to give their money away to others, who are not trying to HELP themselves, but there are ways they can contribute to america to bust the economy in school districts for the children, medicare for the erderly, and jobs to HELP those who are trying to do something with their life, besides asking for a hand-out..We understand that RICHES are for generations within the RICH people family, but everyone should always set a BUDGET aside to help their own country...LOOK at China, their people come to the U.S. and do 90% of their money spending in their own community in the U.S; so their dollars keep circulating back in the Chinese American Community and back over to their country...America is SELFISH and now our country is falling BEHIND..We use to have diginity as a whole country, now it seems we are all fighting for position to be better than the next person in America...Everyone in america just would like to have a FAIR chance. The TEA PARTY will have to deal with God, no need to fight a battle with them...God will handle the Tea Party; when your heart is not right---your mind is equal to your heart...The equation, no matter how much money you have, if your heart and mind is FULL hatered, your nothing on this earth or in heaven.

ReplyDeleteHey Shaw..I am not wealthy and I dont hate wealthy people. But when you talk about the rich are you also including Jay Z OPRAH.....Beyounce....All blacks that have made it big time but dont give shit back to the people.
ReplyDeleteWow sad but true
ReplyDeleteWillie D is not perfect. He makes mistakes just like the rest of us. But the thing I admire about him more than most of us is that he does give back to the community! He has made songs about scandalous women and dignified ladies. He's put out songs about murder and songs about preserving life. He's written songs about racial inequality and songs about racial harmony. And all of it's accurate. Nothing in life is simply black and white. There are many gray areas. Like Willie said what's wrong with getting an understanding? Mel Gibson is not above having a sit down with Jewish people.
ReplyDeleteNow as far as the Tea Party is concerned we all know what that's about. They are separatists at best. Just a bunch of angry uneducated clowns making a bunch of noise. Great post Isiah...
