PRESS RELEASE: The members of the Houston Organization of Public Employees (HOPE) pave Houston’s roads, clear ditches, repair water mains, protect communities from blight and other unsanitary conditions among a myriad of other important tasks that keep the City working and moving forward. These men and women work hard for the Houston community and often go unnoticed. Today HOPE announces their endorsement for Mayor Annise Parker because throughout a difficult and turbulent economic two years, while no one was left unscathed, the Mayor continues to keep an open ear to the issues of public employees and has worked to provide better cooperation in resolving issues and decision making.
On the endorsement, HOPE’s President, Melvin Hughes, stated, “Mayor Parker has been a reasonable Mayor and has given HOPE the opportunity to make collaborative decisions on how we communicate with the administration partly due to our HOPE Contract”, he further stated, “Mayor Parker has made a commitment to our HOPE members on better access and a fair employee evaluation system for all workers”. Secretary of HOPE, Daniel Box also stated, “The Executive Board of HOPE looks forward to working with Mayor Parker on better labor and management cooperation through her next term to collectively give the best public services to the citizens of this great city”.
The Houston Organization of Public Employees, or HOPE, represents approximately over 13,000 city of Houston employees. HOPE strives to concurrently raise the standard of living for Houston’s city employees and ensure the highest quality public services for Houston’s residents, now and in the future.
