IT'S HARD OUT HERE FOR A NEWS CREW ESPECIALLY WHEN WE'RE SUSPICIOUS!

Welcome to Meyerland

Isiah Carey as Suspect #1

Torrey T-Dub Walker the photographer as Suspect #2
I learned a long time ago it's not always easy being a reporter.  If you're covering the wrong story you could be attacked or just verbally assaulted.  My attempt to cover a series of  home invasions in Meyerland was a strong reminder.  As reporters we tend to go out and knock on doors to get residents response to the issue affecting their area.  That's exactly what I tried to do in Meyerland Tuesday.  But instead of getting interviews from residents I ended up feeling like a criminal suspect.  One guy in his drive way refused to roll down his window of his SUV when I approached him for a comment.  In fact, he looked at me and just turned the other way and jumped on his cell phone.  Then I attempted to get a comment from a homeowner who refused to open her door to find out what was going on in her community.  When she realized my photographer and I were outside of her home she immediately closed her garage door that was open until we arrived.  And then there was a call to 911.  Another homeowner in this same neighborhood apparently noticed us outside video taping and she called the cops.  Yes the cops.  The deputy constable came out and said he received a report of two suspicious Black males in the area video taping.  So, as you can see it's not always the glamorous life working as a tv reporter because sometimes we're very suspicious!

  6. Any time someone other than an invited guest or scheduled service provider, is outside my home, walking through my yard, or hanging around my property, I find their presence and activities suspicious, until proven otherwise.

With home invasions going on in the neighborhood, you can't really blame people for being cautious about talking to someone they obviously did not recognize.

  7. @GLM - Really? I tell you this, the last time someone looked "suspicious" in my neighborhood, they weren't walking with a mic, dressed to the 9's, and had a camera crew...hhmm...
