DAVIS: WE TURNED SOUTH CAROLINA OUT!

Former Texas Democratic Party Vice Chair Carl Davis leads delegation to South Carolina to work for Hillary Clinton!

By: Carl 'The New Hammer' Davis - As the Republicans were anxiously awaiting the outcome of the South Carolina primary, Former Texas Democratic Party Vice Chair Carl Davis and a delegation of political heavyhitters came to the historical Southern state to campaign for Senator Hillary Clinton. The group included Ernest McGowen, Jr, M.J. Khan’s chief of Staff, and his son Ernest “Trey” McGowen, III, a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas at Austin, Erica Fowler, a political consultant who most recently assisted with the Wanda Adams Campaign, Velda Britt, a city of Houston employee and Reuben Brazile, an educator and former political candidate. The group was dispersed throughout the Charleston Area to represent Senator Clinton at African-American churches.

It was a great opportunity for the group as they were hosted by Dr. Carol Willis, Arkansas native, member of the AME church, Buffalo Soldier and how could we not add by th way the National Field Director for the Bill Clinton Campaign. Davis said that Southern hospitality is still abound in South Carolina as State Senator Robert Ford, State Represenative Sethe Whipper and State Representative David Mack, III showed his group whypeople love sons of the South. “We were treated like royalty instead of people who were flown in to stomp for the next President of the United States,” said Davis.

Davis said that his purpose for going to South Carolina was fulfilled when he stood overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and viewed Fort Sumpter. “This nation has always been a part war. I went to South Carolina where our nation was first divided and unfortunately remains divided to this day. I believe that when Hillary Clinton gets in office she will be able to unite all of us as she is faced with the task of rebuilding the nation.”

The group also attended an Ecumenical service comenmorating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Morris Street Baptist Church. The were overwhelmed by the speech delivered by Dr. Luns Richardson, president of Morris College, who referenced the group’s Texas connection when he stated “If you show me a Jeanne Kilpatrick(Congresswoman), I’ll show you a Barbara Jordan!”

Ernest McGowen, III was sent to Greenville in what the locals call uppercountry to help rally youthful voters.

Ernest McGowen said that chills went down his spine as he stood in the very place that his forefathers were sold right off the boat from the Middle Paasage. “I am thankful to God for the opportunity to live in these so called free times.

Kudos go out to Rickey Broadway and Aaron Harris. These young men took very good care of the Former TDP Vice Chair Carl Davis and his delegation.

We’ll see how th groupwork impacted the South Carolina Democratic Primary on January 26, 2008.
