QUESTION OF THE DAY: WHAT IS A RACE BAITER?I've been called a race baiter here on The Insite several times over the last couple of months. That's after writing about cases of legitimate discrimination on the blog. So, I decided I would look up the new conservative buzz term that's being used by mindless drones who hear it on the radio. They use it quite often to imply that racism doesn't exist any more. They claim it's simply in the minds of African Americans or other minorities who complain they may have been turned down for a job because a less qualified white received it. Or the Hispanic who found himself beaten by a police officer. Or that black who found a noose in his locker at work. Or that Asian who couldn't get into a local business because he or she wasn't white. How dare a person of color complain about anything in 2008. After all the white male is the only person in this country who is facing any kind of discrimination. The US Census Bureau makes it clear minorities are getting too much of the pie already with their annual incomes. White household incomes only rose by only 1% between 2005 and 2006 to $52,400. Compare that to Hispanics mega median income of $37,000 and Blacks are just balling at $32,000 annually. Wikipedia defines race bating this way: The term for an act of using racially derisive language, actions or other forms of communication, to anger, intimidate or incite a person or groups of people, or to make those persons behave in ways that are inimical to their personal or group interests. - With that definition in mind I can't find a single article on the blog where this applies. By I can find arrogant comments by those who have denial on the brain. Here's an example of one bone headed moron who found a buzz term on conservative radio and thought his mindless tirade could translate into reasonable dialogue on the blog:

Just because you claim racism doesn't exist doesn't make it so. Just because you say someone is a race baiter to shut them up doesn't mean it will happen. Here's what you can do. Get a reality check because apparently you're stuck in the 50's where you think you could shut me up with your buzz words. It ain't going to work buddy. I's free now. And I's will write what I please on this blog. And yes, racism doesn't exist and so do mindless dummies. Now I feel kind of silly for responding to an anonymous email and comment. It's like chasing a ghost in a white hood.

Actually, I'm pretty clear on what the term means....and yes, I still think, over the past few months, your posts have taken a turn to being more about "race baiting" than actually being news-worthy. And, for the record, I never stated that racism was dead. And, for the record, I have a whole hell of alot more education than you think, "buddy", so go shovel your shit somewhere else. It still is all about playing the race card with you, and your protests to the contrary don't fly with me. Never have, never will. Some, a few instances, of your stories may have had hints of racism, Ike, but some are actually overblown bullshit hit pieces. Sounds to me like YOU are still living in the past as well. It's a term thrown out to keep idiots like you from obscuring the REAL arguments surrounding the issues. ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone on here believes that racism does not exist. There will always be racism. What a lot of African-Americans don't take into account is the double standard of "do as we say, not as we do" that they display everyday.
All you have to do is look at things such as the NAACP awards show that they have been advertising. Imagine if there was an NAAWP awards show on TV. There would be hell to pay.
Everytime a crime occurs where the victim is black and the suspect is white, the black community wants it labeled a hate crime. When the tables are turned, the issue of hate crime never comes up. A lot of ill feeling occurs b/c of this type of attitude.

Without free and independent voices to speak the truth whites will continue to live in denial. Some won't even take responsibility for the atrocity called slavery. ReplyDelete1. Slavery WAS NOT over 200 years ago, the Emancipation proclamation did not make it to Texas until June 1865. When slaves were released, they were just "free". They went from forced labor to dirt poor in seconds with no real resources to build a life of their own. Some went and found new lives for themselves, others stayed on the plantations because that is all that they knew and remained in indentured servitude.
2. The economic powerbase of white america (in general) is based on the possession of resources. Resources that have not been openly available to our people. This is historical, you want proof, read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"
3. The Prison Industrial Complex as it is known was formed SPECIFICALLY to put freed black slaves in jail. People with no resources, (regardless of race) steal... so many black men where placed in jail for stealing because they had no other way of making a living. Hard to put "former slave" on a resume.
4. I don't HATE white people. I am generally indifferent. I welcome new friends, but I am wary of ANYONE I feel is ingenuine to me or to my cause, that's self preservation.
5. I believe it is counterproductive to the cause of people of color or any people at an economic or social disadvantage because the history and structure of a political and social system. We should not be in this day and age still counting FIRST black to do this or FIRST hispanic to do that, but we are still making milestones in that way. This country was built on capitalism and the exploitation of people. PERIOD
