OVERDOSE IS NOT THE SAME THING AS DEATH BY A DEADLY MIX!

GETTING THE INFORMATION CORRECT WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST!

Several news outlets have been reporting Houston rapper Pimp C died as a result of an 'overdose' of cough syrup. That's not actually the case. The Insite spoke directly with the assistant county coroner in Los Angeles and was the first to break the story. Ed Winter did not say Pimp C died of a drug overdose. I asked the question point blank - 'was it a drug overdose' and Winter said no. He said it was a deadly mix of Promethazine/Codeine, additional unknown issues, and a pre-existing medical condition called sleep apnea. Now here's the problem - a person who has sleep apnea frequently stops breathing while they sleep. In some cases a person can go up to a minute without breathing with the illness. Here's problem number #2 - Promethazine/Codeine may cause severe and sometimes fatal breathing problems...Those who have sleep apnea are warned not use the cough medication. The two make a deadly mix. So while syrup has become a part of the rap culture and Pimp C even rapped about it, his death wasn't the result of an overdose but a deadly mix of the purple stuff with his current condition. Mr. Winter said he did not attribute Pimp C aka Chad Butler's death to an OVERDOSE BUT AN ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND THE DEADLY MIX OF THE RAPPERS CONDITION AND THE COUGH SYRUP!

The death of anyone is a shame but your report leaves almost as much to be desired as the original accounts since "additional unknown issues" keeps the probability of drugs in the mix.

Thanks for straighting this out because people always forget that celebrities are people too. Some news people have become to careless with the facts.

Lets not be naive... Had he not been getting high by illegally using a prescription drug, then he wouldn't be dead... Although he had a medical condition, its still an OVERDOSE in my book.... Any other spin is just using the parsing of words to soften the cold hard truth.

I must respectfully disagree. As a personal friend of Pimp C we all knew this would happen. However, I think there is a clear difference between a reaction from a deadly mix and an overdose. Overdose means that person took more than their body can stand. Isiah seems to make it clear while he was doing what's typical of some rappers he died as a result of a deadly mix. Two different things. If this was your family member or loved one you would have a totally different take. You would demand the media report it by facts only. You wouldn't dare suggest it's just parsing words. But that's the hypocritical society we live in. Do as I say not as I do. Thanks Isiah for telling the truth and not just parsing the facts.

Great coverage Isiah. Damn it's about time we get some responsible , integrity based journalism. You could have rushed to judgement and ran a sensationalized story by reporting that Pimp C died of an overdose, which in my view is something that "hip hop haters" was hoping for but instead you waited for the truth to unfold and allowed the facts to come out in the "official autopsy report."

I don't know Pimp C's circumstances but let's say your loved one had a cold and he/she drink a half bottle of Nyquil and a couple of packages of Theraflu (which depending on your tolenrance level or physical condition can be a deadly mix). Let's say God forbid they went to sleep and didn't wake up. Would you declare it an accident or an overdose?

Do you think the LA Coroner's Office care one way or other how some rapper died? They did the autopsy. They concluded that the death of Chad Butler was accidental. Case closed!

Now go get a life you cynical bastard.

The world is still a better place regardless of why.

  7. Did someone actually say the world's a better place because Chad "Pimp C" Butler is not in it??? That goes to show you knew absolutely NOTHING about him!

    Watch this.

No, the world is a better place because Ronald Reagan is 6 feet under.

  9. I would like to know if that syrup was perscribed by a physician, because a dr would have asked about any know conditions beforehand. therefore I would have to assume that mr butler got the stuff illegially and took and took some and met his own demise.
