HARRIS COUNTY DEPUTY SHOT THIS MORNING!

HE WAS INVESTIGATING A ROBBERY!

A deputy is recovering after being shot by an alleged robber on Thursday morning. The suspect was also injured in the shootout, which happened at a northeast Houston restaurant.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened around 7:45 a.m. when the officer was called to the scene of the robbery on Uvalde near Interstate 10.

Officers say the suspect robbed a man in the parking lot of a taqueria before going into the restaurant and robbing it as well.

The deputy arrived on the scene as the suspect was leaving the store and the two exchanged fire in the parking lot, injuring both men.

It is not known who fired the first shot, but deputies say the suspect ignored commands to drop his gun and at one point waved the weapon around.

The officer was transported to the hospital with a shot to the leg and is expected to survive.

The suspect suffered shots to his torso, ran across the street and collapsed. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators believe the man may have also robbed a neighboring pizza shop minutes before targeting the taqueria.
