HOUSTON MEDIA PROFESSIONALS HONORED FOR EDUCATION REPORTING!


THOSE MAKING THE A+ LIST FOR EDUCATION REPORTING!

The Insite isn't jealous because I didn't make the big list. That list recognizes Houston journalists nominated for the state honor roll for excellence in education reporting. So, here goes my mean spirited post on the winners who could soon be placed on that prestigious roll. Just kidding. Several Houston journalists are being nominated for balanced reporting on the state's education system. On that list from my home base: Carolyn Mungo (Managing Editor), Andrea Mooney (FOX 26 Web Queen), and Andrea Watkins (Reporter). They all work at FOX 26 news. The nominations are revealed annually and eventually recognized by the Texas Association of School Boards. The Houston journalist were submitted to the state by officials with the Houston Independent School District. Read the proclamation or resolution below for more details and witness the absence of the Insite's name:

SUBJECT: RESOLUTION TO RATIFY NOMINATIONS FOR THE TEXAS

ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS’ STATEWIDE MEDIA

HONOR ROLL

WHEREAS, much of the community’s knowledge and opinions about the Houston Independent School District (HISD) rely on responsible reporting by local media representatives who decide which news to share with the community, how much attention will be focused on various issues, and what the tone of the reporting will be; therefore

NOW BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of HISD nominates Khambrel Marshall, Daniela Guzman, Lyndsay Levingston, and Skip Valet of KPRC-TV Channel 2; Laurie Johnson of KUHF Radio; Dave Strickland and Julie Griffin of KTRK-TV Channel 13; Andrea Mooney, Carolyn Mungo, and Andrea Watkins of KRIV-TV Channel 26; Melissa Lansford of KHOU-TV Channel 11;

Dennis Spellman, KHCW-TV Channel 39; Danny Morales of KTMD-TV

Telemundo; Cristian Mardones of KXIN-TV Channel 45 Univisión; Juan Corso of Semana News; Joe Samuels, of the Jewish Herald Voice; Jorge Luis Sierra of La Voz; and Robin Foster of the Examiner Newspaper Group for the Texas Association of School Boards’ (TASB) statewide Media Honor Roll, calling attention to the ongoing responsible and exemplary nature of their reporting on HISD. The Board expresses its appreciation for the balanced and accurate approach to sharing with the Houston community both the challenges facing our schools and the success achieved by our teachers and students.
