THE LEGACY OF HOPE LUNCHEON TO BENEFIT THE DEVEREUX TREATMENT NETWORK!

THE LITTLE GIRL WAS SO HUNGRY SHE SURVIVED OFF THE MILK OF A DOG!

The speaker choked up as she told a heart wrenching story. Pamela Helm eyes filled with water at the podium as she explained how a little girl was starved and abused by her mother. She said that child was so hungry she routinely sucked the milk of a female dog. That girl also slept with the nursing dog some nights while her older brother was also put out of the house by their mother at dark. That young boy according to Helm was typically chained and left to live like an abused pet. Helm, on the verge of tears, said that unnamed young girl to this day still barks and behaves like a dog. That is just one of the stories the Insite endured Thursday afternoon. It was at the Legacy of Hope luncheon where I heard about a different world many of us can't relate to. It's a world workers at the Devereux Treatment Network deal with on a daily basis. The organization provides support and assistance to families right here in Texas who are facing extreme times. Their main goal is to mentally help young children and teenagers who have been through some trying times. The noon time event at the JW Marriott was an eye opening experience for the Insite. I was invited by Ted Bowen who is in public relations with the city of Houston. He wanted those he invited to see how the organization works and how we can get involved. I also had a chance to meet Executive Direct Pamela Helm, John Lowery, Alan Riffle, Mushahid Khan and a host of others who have dedicated their time and money to saving young children who walk into the doors at Devereux. Also attending the event were attorneys A. James Price and Marlen D. Whitley from Thomas and Knight. The Devereux Foundation has a facility in Clear Lake with additional locations all around the country. To read more about the organization go to the link below and get involved!
