DANGEROUS 'N' APPAREL PRESENTS THE SHIRTS YOU MAY BE WEARING SOON!
There's a new t-shirt line headed to Houston and it's sure to be a conversation piece. Those who designed the clothes are hoping to get you talking with the message they're hoping to convey in the Bayou City. Here's more from the company that's very name is controversial:
dN|Be Apparel (Dangerous Negro Blac Empowerment Apparel) the nationally recognized fashion movement, inspiring action from New York to California, make it’s debut in Houston this spring. Conceived in 2005 by seven ambitious college graduates, dN|Be Apparel is a line of fitted, eclectic and funky t-shirts emblazoned with socially conscious messaging, pushing a smart and stylish clothing line that will serve as a visual representation of the Black Empowerment Movement.
The line has gained widespread acceptance among fashion-conscious consumers and has become infectiously popular among college grads, black professionals, consumers, retailers, scholars, and celebrities. Now, dN|Be Apparel intends to promote it’s wide selection of innovative t-shirts by moving them to the forefront of fashion and social activism in Houston.
Hatched from President Woodrow Wilson’s 1919 characterization of A. Phillip Randolph as “America’s most dangerous Negro,” the company is best known for promoting education and social awareness through its graphic & stylish t-shirts. With tee’s carrying crafty messages like “Smart is the New Gangsta,” “Young. Gifted. Black,” and “America’s Next Top Role Model,” dN|Be Apparel is winning among fashion-forward consumers.
Popular celebrities have already embraced the dN|Be Apparel line. The brand can be seen on hip-hop stars such as Common, Wyclef Jean, Mos Def, Rhymefest, and M1 from Dead Prez. Other loyal brand-fans include actor Anthony Mackie, supermodel Eva Pigford and 106 & Park host Terrence J.
The company’s mission is to help combat the negative and complacent mentalities that plague the black community through economic, social, and political messages. Initially, the organization planned to use fashion as a vehicle to achieve its goals and is expanding to media and entertainment outlets, to continue to promote the message of black intellectualism and social consciousness.
Initially, dN|Be Apparel found success in Houston in 2007 by developing 2 major fashion shows. From there, they attended the world-renowned M.A.G.I.C. Fashion Convention in Las Vegas where, for the second year in a row, they wowed consumers and retailers with their fresh and energetic style of clothing.
In addition to developing dN|Be Apparel, dN Group LLC, the parent company, successfully launched a Speaking Tour to support the movement, making stops in Indianapolis, Stanford, Louisville, and Houston. The ongoing speaking tour focuses on inspiring young people to work hard and explore entrepreneurship.
Available via the popular website, www.dangerousNEGRO.com, dN|Be Apparel can also be found in Houston at EndZone Fashions, 467 Galleria St and KS Fashions.
Future plans for dN|Be Apparel by dN Group LLC, include a flagship store in Houston projected at opening in Spring 2009.
