The College Board is urging Congress to give illegal immigrants tuition aid and a path to citizenship in light of efforts in several states to block them.
The group of 5,000 schools is best known for its SAT college admission tests. It released a report today that cites a need for federal legislation that would open up in-state college tuition,
financial aid and legal status to many illegal immigrants in the United States.
The push comes after some states in recent years have moved to bar illegal immigrants from paying in-state tuition and, in some cases, even enrolling in their public colleges. It also comes as
opponents are warning that immigration reform now could reduce already-scarce jobs and college enrollment slots in the ailing economy.
The Supreme Court ruled in 1982 that illegal immigrants are entitled to a K-12 public education, but federal law is silent as to their college rights.
The 10 states that still offer in-state tuition to illegal immigrants are Texas, California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Utah and Washington.
Someone please tell them the definition of 'illegal'.

ReplyDeleteIf you have extra money left over to pay for these ILLEGAL aliens who aren't even supposed to be here, then by all means pay their way. But don't ask me to pay for it when this country is BROKE!
There are people who are here legally who can't get any tuition aid because there's not enough money. Tell me - do you really think that illegal aliens should get free tuition before American citizens?
Why would offer FREE tuition to "illegal" aliens when individuals who live "legally" in the country but out of state have to pay more. This is crazy! I am an american and Texas Resident still paying for college courtesy of student loans. FREE tuition for illegal aliens. I DISAGREE with this! Who do we need to right. I hope law makers ignore this request. This is simply obsurd!
