HOUSTON HAS SOME OF THE BEST HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY!

DID YOUR SCHOOL MAKE THE LIST?

Houston ISD has a record number of high schools on the Newsweek list of “America’s Best High Schools.” A total of 15 HISD high schools made the list, up from seven last year. Two HISD schools made the Top 100. Carnegie Vanguard High School is 29^th, up from 98^th in 2009. DeBakey High School for Health Professions came in at number 70, up from 198^th last year. Only 1622 schools, or 6 percent of the approximately 27,000 U.S. public high schools, met the standards to be included on the Newsweek list.

Six HISD schools are returning to the list this year (Carnegie Vanguard, DeBakey, Bellaire, Westside, High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and Lamar) and nine HISD schools are new to the list (Lee, Sharpstown, Chavez, Scarborough, Sam Houston, High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, Challenge Early College High School, Waltrip and Milby).
