Press Release: Joe Turner, director of the City’s Parks and Recreation department, presented its fiscal year 2011 budget on June 10, 2010 to Houston City Council members. As he approached the last item of his presentation, Director Turner paused, looked at Council Member Johnson, and smiled. The last item of Director Turner’s presentation was Brock Park’s new proposed budget.
Council Member Johnson worked diligently to convince Mayor Parker, and Director Turner to continue services for Brock Park. Council Member Johnson’s efforts were unwavering on behalf of his constituents to redirect Brock Park’s operating approach to increase revenues necessary for its sustainability. He was elated that Brock Park is now slated for funding in the coming fiscal year.
Council Member Johnson thanked Mayor Parker, and Director Joe Turner for their hard work in understanding Brock Park’s impact on not only District B but to all Houstonians. Council Member Johnson also announced a golf tournament in the near future as a part of his plan to raise private funds that will make Brock Park a world-class golf course.
