IT'S SORT OF LIKE THAT RICHARD GERE GERBIL THING!If you're a reporter you likely got the same tip call I did this past weekend. I was told by two sources that an elected official was arrested. That's it. No reason why or when - just that official's name. So, just like any other reporter I started digging. When I made that final call to try and find the truth I realized I was on a wild goose chase. I called another official who told the Insite it was absolutely untrue and the rumor began on Friday. That person said they'd checked with the elected target and the Houston Police Department. They couldn't find any proof of an arrest. I also used my resources to check booking records and could not find a shred of evidence that person had been thrown in the poky as some had claimed. That left me wondering just how do far fetched rumors get started? It's sort of like that Richard Gere gerbil thing!
