THE CITY OF HOUSTON BACKS OFF COURT TIME CHANGE IN PART!

DESPITE THE CHANGE SOME WILL STILL BE LEFT WAITING FOR HOURS!

FOX 26 News has learned Mayor Annise Parker’s administration has done a flip flop at municipal court after public and police pressure.

It was late July when we first reported defendants at city court were waiting hours because the presiding judge issued an order requiring officers to show up at 1 p.m. instead of 8 a.m.

According to an internal memo obtained by FOX 26, Judge Barbara Hartle has changed that policy again. Now nightshift officers will be allowed to attend court at 8 or 10 a.m. for jury trials.

All other officers will continue to show up at 1 p.m., which means some defendants will still have to wait hours to get their hearings under way.

In July, Houston City Attorney David Feldman said the later court attendance time was designed to save taxpayers money by sparing some of the overtime paid to officers showing up early for trial.
