NEW OIL RIG FIRE IN THE GULF!

THE COAST GUARD IS NOW REPORTING A SHEEN IN THE WATER!

Washington Post: Mariner Energy has a rig in 340 feet of water about 100 miles south of Vermilion Bay, La., and as workers were painting and sandblasting it today, they saw a fire break out above them in an oil tank or some such structure. They jumped in the water and have all been rescued but the platform is now ablaze and there are reports of a mile-long oil sheen on the water. This is all pretty sketchy still and we've heard conflicted reports about whether the platform was actively producing oil and gas or, rather, was shut in.
