Baton Rouge police say a gunman went into his child's hospital room, argued with his estranged wife and her boyfriend and shot both early today, critically injuring the boyfriend. Cpl. L'Jean McKneely says a warrant accused 37-year-old Darrell Garner, of Baker, of attempted first-degree murder. He said the wife was shot in the shoulder and the man in the head and arm. The shootings happened about 12:30 a.m. in Baton Rouge General Medical Center's Mid-City hospital. McKneely says Garner and his wife had not lived together for some time. The child was theirs. McKneely did not know the child's gender. McKneely says he thought the child was about 7 years old, but hospital spokeswoman Terri McNorton said the room was in an adult ward, where patients are at least 15.
