FOX 26 Sports has learned the Houston Texans will announce later Wednesday that former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips has agreed to become the team's new defensive coordinator.
He replaces Frank Bush who was fired Monday.
Phillips, son of former Houston Oilers head coach Bum Phillips, brings a wealth of experience to the Texans.
He has been a coach in the NFL for 34 years.
Phillips has been a head coach with the Denver Broncos (1993-1994), Buffalo Bills (1998-2000), and the Dallas Cowboys (2007-2010).
He served as interim head coach of the New Orleans Saints (1985) and the Atlanta Falcons (2003).
Phillips has been a defensive coordinator in the NFL for 20 years including stints with the Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Broncos, Atlanta Falcons and San Diego Chargers.
In an interview Monday with FOX 26 Sports, when asked if he considered Phillips the front-runner to be named Texans defensive coordinator, McNair stopped just short of saying yes.
