FOX 26 NEWS HAS OBTAINED A RESPONSE TO A BLISTERING AUDIT DONE ON THE HOUSTON BRANCH OF THE NAACP FIVE YEARS AGO.
IT WAS LAST WEEK WHEN WE FIRST REPORTED A 2006 AUDIT ON THE CIVIL RIGHTS ORGANIZATION FOUND LOTS OF ACCOUNTING ISSUES AND QUESTIONED RELATED PARTY TRANSACTIONS.
A RESPONSE DRAFTED BY OFFICIALS OF THE LOCAL ORGANIZATION IN HOUSTON THAT SAME YEAR INDICATES THEY BEGAN ADDRESSING AND CORRECTING THOSE PROBLEMS IMMEDIATELY.
ALSO, WE'VE LEARNED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR YOLANDA SMITH RECEIVED COMMITTEE APPROVAL TO DO BUSINESS WITH TWO RELATIVES AND A THIRD WAS CONSIDERED AN EMERGENCY.
JUST LAST WEEK SMITH WAS RECONFIRMED BY THE NATIONAL OFFICE AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DESPITE AN ATTEMPT BY LOCAL PRESIDENT DR. D.Z. COFIELD TO TERMINATE HER.
SOURCES SAY THE NATIONAL OFFICE ALSO SUSPENDED THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND PRESIDENT COFIELD FROM ACTING ON BEHALF OF THE LOCAL OR NATIONAL OFFICE.
