Students will be absorbed by HISD. Here's a statement from the district:
Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott has ordered closing the North Forest Independent School District and potentially merging it with the Houston Independent School District beginning in the 2012-2013 school year. The Houston Independent School District did not advocate for this proposal. However, if Commissioner Scott’s order becomes reality, HISD stands ready to welcome the children of North Forest and partner with that proud community.
HISD’s African American and Hispanic students have significantly narrowed the achievement gap, and graduation rates for those students are on the rise, said HISD Board President Paula Harris.
“We know it’s going to be a challenge. We believe there should be an effective teacher in every classroom and an effective leader in every school. We are realizing the positive results from those beliefs and we looking forward to sharing our academic achievement with every student, teacher, and community member joining Team HISD,” Harris said. “We look forward to working with Commissioner Scott to ensure that HISD receives adequate financial resources to tackle this unique challenge.”
HISD Superintendent Dr. Terry Grier said the nation’s seventh-largest school district would embrace North Forest’s children.
“We will step up and deliver for these children,” Dr. Grier said. “All children deserve a quality education, regardless of where they happen to live.”
The Houston Independent School District is the largest school district in Texas and the seventh-largest in the United States with 298 schools and more than 200,000 students. The 301-square-mile district is one of the largest employers in the Houston metropolitan area with nearly 30,000 employees.
I dont think this has to do with race. African American or White. If you owned a company in which was mostly helmed by black people and you were paying them 40,000-200,000 a year for 6yrs and you company was failing to meet its needs and you had to close the company for failure reasons would this be a race issue? I myself work for a school district in which is laying off all races of people whom are not meeting the school districts needs teachers/staff. how come peoples lazy, failing ways in life keep getting rewarded?. If I were to go to work and not work or do my job 101% to the very best of my knowlede why should I get paid. I'm a pretty crafty person especially with hands on stuff so if I were to do work for you and make a complete disaster of the work would you still pay me? Not being racist but it seems the race card always gets pulled when something like this happens. I say God Bless to all humanity and races of all color and creed but forget a failing school district whom has troubles with budgiting and teaching our tomorrow! wake up bro's and sises out there it's your childrens education at hand and this district has been failing under state standards which all schools are accredited upon. Failing = - for 6yrs these people have been getting paid for what? all people who live in this district or whom has kids/children that attend this districts schools have been paying these lazy non budgeting teachers/administrators salary though local and state taxes. Peace and most of all God Bless all races.....

ReplyDeleteI welcome this close of North Forest School District. This should have been done fifteen years ago when this school district failed to deliver academic concerns for the students in this district. It is fifteen years too late for many students.
ReplyDeleteI do not appreciate the comment of HISD superintendent when he indicated "it doesn't matter where the sudents live". This is an upstanding community where many people are well educated.
