SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MURDER IN HOUSTON!

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 5500 Yale about 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday (July 5).

The suspect, Anthony Lee Parks (b/m, DOB: 2-18-88), is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court.

Parks is accused in the killing of Mehmood Ghaznavi, 52, of Houston, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another male also suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. Doctors expect him to survive his injuries.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants T. Biggs, A. Semmelrock and Officers M. Condon and M. Brady reported:

Mr. Ghaznavi, owner and operator of the Java Gold jewlery store, was inside his business at the above location when a male suspect (Parks) entered the store and attempted to rob him. At some point during the attempted robbery, Ghaznavi and the suspect exchanged gunfire. Ghaznavi was fatally shot and the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Further investigation led to the identity of Parks as the shooter in this case. He was arrested about 6 p.m. on Thursday (July 7) without incident.
