FROM LOS ANGELES TO HOUSTON - SAY HELLO TO FOX'S RITA GARCIA!

The Insite had a chance to chat with new weekend anchor/reporter Rita Garcia.  She arrived at FOX 26 this morning and quickly hit it off with lots of people including old college classmate Michelle Merhar. Garcia says she's happy to be back in Texas.  She's no stranger to our city because she has deep roots in the Lone Star state.  Garcia says she grew up in Austin.  She also worked in the valley before making a move to KCBS-TV in Los Angeles.  I have a full interview with the new face who will anchor FOX 26 News Saturday and Sunday while reporting three days a week.  Welcome Rita!

Biography:  Rita Garcia is a bilingual news reporter currently freelancing at KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles. Born into a family of educators, it is no surprise that Rita has always had a passion for teaching an audience. The daughter of a school administrator and a guidance counselor, Rita learned from her parents the importance of educating a community and has strived to do so as a reporter.

Rita honed her broadcasting skills at the University of Texas State-San Marcos, serving as the campus station’s News Director, and supervising more than 12 reporters for a weekend news show. After graduation, she worked for NPR in the nation’s capital before realizing her true calling was on-camera. For two plus years, she reported for KRGV-TV in Weslasco, Texas before making the extraordinary jump to KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles.
