I THINK THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE RACIST MOMENTS!!!!

THIS SHELL GAS STATION WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTING!!!!

I was in a local Shell gas station in Houston Wednesday when a homeless African American man came in and begged the clerk of Arab decent for 25 cents. The clerk told him to get out of the store and don't come back. The homeless guy finally decided to comply and left the store. I'm not quite sure if the owner realized The Insite was within earshot. But as I continued looking for a cell phone ear piece I heard the clerk who's English was very poor utter a word that came out with clarity in a statement. He said "I hate those niggers when they come in here." It always amazing me when a person who despises an entire community always move in to make money off the very people they hate. So I'm going to follow up by calling Shell corporate to let them know what type of person or clerk they have running one of their franchise stores. But only minutes later I see that same homeless guy walk back into the store after successfully getting that quarter and buying something. The clerk takes his money reluctantly and rolls his eyes while the homeless guy walks out smiling with his can of something-something. I was shocked that the guy would come back to the store after being the victim of a racial slur. But what I forgot was the homeless guy never heard him. But the question I have is would the homeless guy have stayed away if he knew what the clerk had said. I'm wondering what you think about this situation? By the way, I never purchased the ear piece from the store after that. Besides they were charging $12 when Walmart sells them for $6.97...

Ike I hope you whooped his ass. The clerk. You can't let people get away with that. And the first poster is an asshole.

  3. Why not post the address, so your readers will know where this happened and can avoid the place?

I agree with Kevin. Where is this station? It should be avoided. And to the second poster: the first poster was being sarcastic. Lighten up.

It sounds like the clerk was mostly miffed because the man was homeless and loitering. In most of our minds he should not have called the vagrant a n........, but in his miond it is OK. Isiah gave a pretty good description of the account and I do not believe the clerk is a card carrying racist, just in need of sensitivity training. He sounds like the type of guy that would call an Arab vagrant something unnacceptable too. The man probably DOES have black friends, most of us non blacks do, but he wouldn't ever call them the n word. I'm not condoning the guys actions, just trying to give an alternate thought.

But it's OK for rappers to call each other the "n" word and it's OK for Hollywood to use it in movies.

There is a sort of double standard when it comes to the n word. Some claim it is a "term of endearment" like when a friend calls you one, but I'm one of those black or white, no grey people so I believe it's wrong no matter who you are. One more thing, sometimes Arab folk are called the n word too. Trust me they are called that and a whole lot more. So does that mean they can get away with it? Isn't it just like when two black people call themselves the n word? What do you think? I'm a white dude but would like to know what others think.

So I'm just curious... if you see an African-American clerk call the same homeless guy an "N-word," would you be as upset as you would be in this particular situation?

I'm guessing the last poster was addressing Isiah but my answer is yes I would be offended, but not as bad. Not sure why. And for sure if a white person said it that would be even worse than if the Arab said it. The order of offense would be (from least to greatest)
    1) black person
    2) Arab, Asian, Hispanic person
    3) white person, no matter whre they are from or whatever the accent.

  13. NO, I WASN'T THERE TO BUY GAS...AND YES, I ANSWER COMMENTS IN THE FORM OF QUESTIONS DIRECTED TO ME AS OFTEN AS I CAN...MOST OF THE TIME DURING BREAKS FROM THE ENRON CRIMINAL TRIAL THAT I'M COVERING AND ON MY LUNCH BREAKS LIKE NOW...AND I APOLOGIZE IF I'M NOT RESPONDING FAST ENOUGH. AND THAT GAS STATION IS IN SOUTHEAST HOUSTON NEAR 610 - I'VE GOT TO LOOK AT MY NOTES TO GET THE CROSS STREET.

Tea, I agree with you in that the word is pretty much never acceptable but just because as pointed out in another post Arab people are called the n word too, sometimes plain and then sometimes with the word sand in front of it.

I guess the following relates "anonymous'" list of races they prefer in descending order.

The order of offense would be (from least to greatest)
    1) black person
    2) Arab, Asian, Hispanic person
    3) white person, no matter whre they are from or whatever the accent.

AAAAH... NOTHING LIKE A SLAP OF GOOD OL' RACIAL DISCUSSION TO GET FOLKS ALL FIRED UP. FIRST OFF I'M A RAPPER AND YES I DO USE THE WORD NIGGA, (NOT NIGGER) ON MY SONGS AND IN EVERYDAY TALK (OCCASIONALLY). LOOK PEOPLE, WE LIVE IN A DOUBLE STANDARD SOCIETY, GET OVER IT. IS IT FAIR TO HAVE LADIES NIGHT AT THE CLUBS ALL THE TIME, WHEN IT'S THE MEN WHO BUY ALL THE DRINKS AND PAY ADMISSION, SUBSEQUENTLY MAKING THESE NIGHT CLUBS RICH. NO! IS IT FAIR THAT A MAN CAN SLEEP AROUND AND HE'S CONSIDERED A PLAYER, BUT IF A WOMAN DOES IT, SHE'S A STRAIGHT UP &%@. NO. YOU GET THE PICTURE. THAT'S NOT GONNA CHANGE. SO THE FACT THAT BLACKS USE THE WORD NIGGA (NOT NIGGER) TO COMMUNICATE WITH OR REFERENCE ONE ANOTHER, DOES NOT MEAN THAT NON-BLACKS ARE GOING TO GET THE SAME PASS WHEN THEY USE IT. THIS IS THE SAME LOGIC THAT APPLIES TO WHITES, WHEN THEY CALL ONE ANOTHER CRACKER, WHITE TRASH OR WHATEVER, AND TO MEXICANS WHEN THEY FREQUENTLY CALL ONE ANOTHER WETBACKS. THE REASON I KNOW THIS, IS BECAUSE, I HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE WORLD AND HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE FRIENDS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE. I HAVE WITNESSED MUSLIMS FROM AZERBAIJAN TO THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, USE RACIAL SLURS AGAINST THIER OWN. THE BOTTOM LINE IS... THEY CAN, YOU CAN'T. IF YOU ARE NOT THE SAME RACE OF AN ETHNC GROUP AND YOU ARE BUSTED UTTERING A WORD THAT IS DEEMED TO BE RACIALLY OFFENSIVE BY THAT GROUP, COMING FROM THE MOUTHS OTHERS, YOUR JOB, SOCIAL STATUS AND DID I MENTION HEALTH, MAY BE PUT AT SERIOUS RISK... AND THAT'S REAL TALK.

Racism has evolved in america - new target is religiously motivated not only skin.

I went to get my State inspection done to day at Kwik Kar - Clear lake (14200 HWY 3, Webster, TX 77598) and faced the unprovoked racially motivated reamrks from the white trash that works there. First when I went to pay- an employee came from no where and told me that I looked like a taleban with my sunglases!!! -- I do not even have a beard..before I could answer he was called inside. Then manager said after I paid thank you and see you in a police station---I just told him what do you mean and I shall not waste time to decipher what your employee said. After 15 minutes I found out that they had my insurance copy and I called -the manager asked what was my last nme --I said Karim then he said, " I bet your first name is Mohammed--no problem pick it up tmrw and I shall attach a bomb with it!!! -- i could hear racial slurs and laughter in the back ground.

Bottomline is Mainstream America always had singled out a race or community as a demon fanned by politics & media. It started with Native Indians, Blacks, chinese, japanese, Germans(for little while), Russians, Vietnamese, and now muslims. Hatred does sell everything.

I have taken action by involving the muslim community & south asian community --telling them not to give any buisiness to this store. That is the best away to confront people of this nature.

    With kind regards,

    mkarim

i was stumbling for articles and saw your page and believe you shouldn't be as miffed. personally, while the word nigger has been exploited on all sides, it is now just a stricken word, just don't say it. however, you shouldn't hate on the arab for being racist. how would you feel if you led a high stress job of gas station cashier (very highly robbed) and how would you feel if you don't earn ridiculous amounts and still feel like you're forced to help out every vagrant who wanders in. people have their reasons sometimes that you don't understand. nigger is a hurtful word, but you're being just as ignorant by being so condemning of this guy from your 5 minute encounter once.

While I do find this offensive, I find that Black people have this problem of being "Selectively Black". This means that you only care about this issue when someone is found out. The fact is that too many of us ignore this issue when we are giving of our two precious treasures. These are our intellectual property and the dollars that we earn. We want to recognize our blackness over one comment and not our economic disparity as a whole. We want Governments to honor Affirmative Action but not do the same ourselves. Now here over a few coins you want to boycott. I say boycott over the cheating on contracts that are done by the City of Houston, Metro, etc.
