HONORED FOR ALL OF HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO H-TOWN!
Houston City Councilman James Rodriguez presented the Dream with a proclamation at City Hall Tuesday. The Insite has obtained a picture of the event and the transrcipt. Here's what the councilman had to say:
"Last week was a good week for Hakeem: the Houston Rockets immortalized him with a statue in front of the Toyota Center, and he was elected to the Hall of Fame. In September, he will be enshrined with fellow dominant big man Patrick Ewing, Miami Heat head coach Pat Riley, and legendary TV color man Dick Vitale, just to name a few.
He still holds the record for most blocked shots in the NBA and is still the only player in NBA history with 3,000 blocked shots and 2,000 steals. He helped launch the University of Houston Cougars basketball team to prominence in the 80's through a small, charitable foundation dubbed "Phi Slamma Jamma". He's played against the some of the best centers basketball
has had to offer, and he beat them all.
So instead of being gloomy about today being income tax day, we choose to honor Hakeem Olajuwon for all of his contributions on and off the court to the City of Houston."
It is about time!!!!
